There are years when nothing happens on the surface:
you've been studying, but didn't feel obvious progress;
you've been exploring ideas, but nothing took shape;
you've been taking risks and investing, but didn't get wealthier, maybe you even lost money;
you've been working on your project, but got quite far from the vision you initially had;
you've been meeting a lot of people, but no deep and meaningful story came out of it;
and that's fine, that's how life is supposed to be;
you try, you feel stuck, you choose to stay mentally strong;
you try other things, you get slightly better, things start connecting, slowly at first, suddenly at once;
and one day, before you know it, you will be exactly where you once wanted to be, and you won't care much about all the mistakes you made along the way, or about how much time it took, you will simply be proud of your efforts, your resilience, your lifelong journey.
The past ten years taught me to never listen to people who never took any real risk in their lives.
"Why would you go to Japan? You are not going to get more opportunities over there. There is no discrimination, it's all in your mind."
"What's the point of cryptocurrencies? There is no intrinsic value. No one is going to use that. Who cares about decentralization? We already have banks."
"It's too late to learn a foreign language as an adult and reach a native level, I know a lot of smart people who tried and even they couldn't do it. You think you are different?"
"Fasting? Why would you even do that? That's unhealthy. I tried once. I couldn't stop thinking about food and I get irritated. Have you talked about it with your doctor?"
"You spend so much time reading and writing? About what? Just following your curiosity? Why would you even do that?"
"You spend so much time talking to your parents? What are you even talking about? I never got along with mine. They don't understand me. Why would you even do that?"
People see their own fears and limitations, not yours.
The funniest part: they have health issues, money issues, family issues, anger and anxiety issues, and yet, they love to tell you how you should live your life.
If you are going to listen to someone, at least, seek in the direction of happy people who pretty much already have everything they want.
people being able to commit enough to be able to buy tickets to something over 4 months from now is WILD to me. never at any point do i know where i’ll be even 2 weeks from a given moment.
Sometime in your life you’re going to be alone and you’re just going to have to figure it out.
You’re going to fail and no one will be there to save you.
It’s not dark—it’s just the truth.
Learning to fail—and how to grow through it—is one of the most important skills of life.
