5 day banking wil nt cause any inconvenience to the general public. Saturday already has the lowest footfall in banks.

And we are not asking for it for free-the daily working hours are being increased to compensate.

The only reason @nsitharaman ’s ego, nothing else.

Public sector banks official working hours is 7 hours with half an hour lunch time means 6 and half hour per day .we are asking 28 Saturday off that means 182 hours off in a year in lieu of that we have agreed to work 40 minutes extra daily and in a year banks remained open for 275 days that means we have agreed to work 183 hours so it is squared off and on top of that every officers works extra daily 2 to 3 hours means 550 hours to 800 hours extra unpaid hours every PSB officers give every year to bank .
Unfortunately nobody notices and appreciates it .

We Bankers have always stood with the nation whenever the country needed us. *During Demonetisation, we worked long hours to serve the public and keep banking operations running. During the COVID-19 pandemic,* when most people were staying at home, bankers continued to work so that essential banking services, pensions, government payments and other financial services reached people without interruption.

*Over the years, our responsibilities have only increased.* Financial inclusion, Direct Benefit Transfers, pensions, compliance, audits, recoveries, customer service and countless other responsibilities have become part of our daily work. But a banker’s day does not always end when the branch closes. Pending work, targets, reports, compliance and preparation for the next day often keep us working beyond working hours. Behind every banker is also a family waiting at home.

*Five-Day Banking* is not a demand for special treatment. It is about work-life balance, health, family time and a sustainable working life. An understanding was reached in *December 2023, followed by the Joint Note dated 8 March 2024 recommending all Saturdays as holidays.* Yet the banking community continues to wait for final approval and implementation.

We are not asking for a favour. We are asking for fairness after years of dedicated service to the nation. Strike is never our first choice. A strike means losing our own hard-earned wages, and no banker wants that. We take this difficult step only when other efforts to resolve the issue do not bring a satisfactory outcome.

We stood with the country in its toughest hours. Today, we ask the country to understand our concerns and stand with its bankers.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗺𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗜 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀.

Banks using their own official Social Media handles to campaign against their own employees.

Employees being portrayed as if they are the enemy of the very customers they serve every single day.

And then came the silence.

I searched for voices from the top.

Where were the executives when their own people were being publicly discredited?

Where was the outrage when employees were reduced to a convenient villain?

Where was the voice questioning an arbitrary PLI scheme?

Silence. Complete silence.

Because speaking against a union is easy.

Speaking against your own employees is even easier.

But speaking truth to your own institution?

That takes a spine.

It takes courage to say “This is wrong” when the wrong is being done by the organisation that signs your pay cheque.

It takes integrity to stand up when standing up can cost you comfort, proximity, privileges or a designation.
Institutional loyalty should never mean surrendering your conscience.

A bank can survive a strike.

It can survive criticism.

It can survive disagreement.

What it should never normalise is the humiliation of its own people.

To my fellow bankers:

Don’t lose your voice merely because you wear the same logo.

Because the day employees become afraid to question their own institution is the day an institution stops having employees with a voice and starts having people who merely follow orders.
And that is a far more dangerous failure than any strike.
