2 weeks off training. What fades first?
Not mainly strength. Your engine: blood volume + VO2 max.
Copenhagen study: 10 men cut steps 10,501 → 1,344/day. 2 weeks later, VO2 max −7%.
Keeping fitness takes less than building it.

Day 27 as a solo founder of a health app.
Spent today on day-1 activation, not ads. If someone opens the app once and never logs a meal, the rest of the product doesn't matter.
What's the first action that made YOU stick with a fitness habit?
Same oats. Almost 3× the calories.
1 cup cooked oatmeal: ~166 kcal
1 cup granola: ~462 kcal
Cooked oats are ~84% water. Granola is baked with oil + sugar.
Not bad food, just a portion trap. (USDA FoodData Central)

Your muscles are also a gland.
Contracting muscle releases myokines, chemical messengers that reach other organs. During exercise, IL-6 can rise up to 100× in the blood.
Every set is also a message. Sources in the images.

@DearS_o_n Protein is easier to hit when it's spread over 3-4 meals instead of saved for dinner. Adding 20g at breakfast is usually the simplest change.
@gregogallagher Leaving 1-2 reps in the tank also makes it easier to repeat the same quality session week after week. Consistency beats the occasional all-out set.
Solo dev, 26 days after launching my health app.
What I learned: getting installs was the easy part. Most people start the free trial and never try the main feature (snap a meal photo, get calories + macros).
So this month I'm fixing day 1, not buying more ads.
What made YOU stick with a fitness app?
One short night can make you hungrier.
After ~4 h of sleep, healthy men ate ~22% more the next day. Across 11 studies, short sleep added ~385 kcal/day.
Not just willpower. Protect your sleep tonight.

Your gym hour isn't where most of your calories go.
NEAT (walking, standing, stairs, fidgeting) can differ by up to 2,000 kcal/day between people of similar size (Levine, Mayo Clinic).
Take the stairs. Walk your calls.
