I can’t believe Stephen Miller and I come from the same time and place. Just bonkers to grow up on the west side of Los Angeles in the 1990s and come out of it an anti-immigration fascist.
The guy's great-grandfather was a Yiddish-speaking peddler who arrived at Ellis Island in 1903, and somehow New York endured his presence. No one kidnapped him off the street or sent him to a concentration camp in El Salvador.
WATCH — @bradlander: “You can criticize Israel and not be antisemitic. You can be an anti-Zionist and not be antisemitic. I will stand up for Palestinian human rights and firmly against bigotry aimed at Jews. They are the same job.”
@BookerGWash The thing is a lot of us college educated yuppies (Black and brown ones included, it me) ARE working class now bc of the complete collapse and failure of capitalism. Which is why we are organizing a wider tent that crosses race and class
Tbh this is wrong: the left is doing well for 3 reasons. First, mod Dems failed at their central goal—stopping Trump. Second, parts of it abandoned international human rights. Third, young Black/Latino leaders have been told to wait their turn for too long, DSA gave them a shot.
I don't think DSA sweeping in NYC means DSA will sweep everywhere but I do think it means the winning blueprint is getting your ass up and knocking on doors for candidates you believe in
@kasekaiserina I know exactlyyyyy what you mean (why I still haven’t joined despite voting for their slates 98% of the time) but I do think they’re receptive to coaching/being challenged on this issue
@claireforny is not just born in Texas but is of literal *Native* American heritage.
Katie Miller on the other hand is a white supremacist pushing Nazi talking points.
last night GLARINGLY affirmed *yet again* that voters aren’t remotely as interested in excavating old tweets as consultants and media are. No one gives a shit about professional hygiene, just that someone speaks to them in the *present tense* of rent, groceries, childcare, wages
What's amusing to me is that these are the same type of people who go into complete meltdown mode when leftists run as 3rd party candidates also. The truth is they just don't want anti-corporate views to have an expression anywhere in the political system.
the crash out on this app rn is wild
but one thing I’ve learned in 20 yrs of being chronically online:
here & the world are very different places
reps who do right by constituents are going to win & keep winning, period
Zohran is a perfect example
Go talk to your neighbors
All of this and in particular:
3. Conviction beats caution. The candidates who said hard things about rent, about who pays for what, about Gaza, they won. The triangulators lost.
4. Cost of living is everything. Everything else is wallpaper.
