Today, some of the books that shaped my life—and the lives of so many others—are being challenged by people who disagree with certain ideas or perspectives. And librarians are on the front lines, fighting every day to make the widest possible range of viewpoints, opinions, and ideas available to everyone.
@cailynnk@cityofcalgary Yes, I had a very disappointed 4 year old earlier this month. Being open from May through September seems even more important given the number of days during the summer we will stay indoors due to smoke.
Being an engaged citizen doesn’t end at the polls! We now have 4 years to tell our elected officials what we need and how we expect them to govern. We will keep going! #yyc#calgary
45% increase in ndp MLAs compared to 2019! Although it’s not the result we wanted it’s not the end! Gotta keep engaged, hold the elected officials responsible and keep supporting next round! Change takes time and we are changing the culture of our province for the better!
Wouldn’t it be great if the #TedLasso truth bomb is that he fourth walls it and says into the camera that season 4 starts next week and that’s why season 3 was like five months late coming out and then Beard goes “SEASON 4, BEBEH” and we all cheer?
Please don’t pollute Nose Creek. Our Creek Watch training was ruined by smoke yesterday, but our site assessment was quite alarming. It’s gross to see how we treat our wetlands. Nose Creek is our Ecological Spine, let’s treat it better! #SaveNoseCreek#SNCwatershed#SNCcreekwatch
An important thread with 2 great points. 1) Gov spending goes up year over year regardless of who is in power because things just cost more year over year. 2) The NDP did far more with less than the UCP have done with more and that’s worth considering this election.
🧵 There once was a kid who had to take 3 busses to get home from school. His mom was a single parent who had to work, so she couldn’t pick him up after school. He got home after dark, then his long night of homework began. Long day, long night.

@sarahelder I’ve been reflecting on how normalised this has become. Mission on Mondays, Inglewood on Thursdays, any given library during the week or weekend. For nearly a year, my own neighbourhood. I see these protests multiple times per week while those who live elsewhere do not.
The thing about being a mom is that you spend the kid’s first few years devoting every part of your mind, body, and soul to them and then as soon as you start to burn out, that’s when their little brains start forming memories.
By installing a rain garden on a quiet local street, the turning radius of cars can be reduced as a traffic calming method, while simultaneously addressing stormwater pollution in an environmentally friendly manner. (@patrickherron12)
@Theholisticpsyc Oh! So this bedtime and daycare separation anxiety is 100% legit from my 4 year old! Advice for making sure she doesn’t get stuck here?!? Thank you!
On January 24th, for a few minutes, more electricity was generated in Alberta from solar than from coal. Yes, in Alberta. Yes, in January. #ableg#cdnpoli

I talk about this in on tour, and often in my interviews, but find that it is also often cut down or cut out when published, so. Oil sands corporations and the Alberta government are knowingly killing Indigenous people with industrial carcinogens. They will kill workers too.
