What a horrific drop, that's an absolute sitter. NZ trying to repeat that Christchurch performance where they were dropping Brook every 20 runs on the way to a hundred?
It's funny because Vaibhav himself is can't miss, want to catch every ball. But him in T20Is will almost be uninteresting in the sense that he'll obviously be great and dominate. Anticipating his ODI (expect him to be very good) and Test debuts more in that sense.
It is increasingly emerging that the selectors are preparing to pick Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the T20I squad.
There has been considerable debate over whether it is appropriate to fast-track a 15-year-old into the national side so early, but it is understood that the selectors are seriously considering handing the Rajasthan Royals batter the national cap.
@wrdgafidc Yeah I remember that insane attention on every single innings over that year between 99 and 100. And then the total damp squib that the 100th was given the match context.
Inevitable to see a few more injuries given age. Rough one though, he was hobbling around in the IPL final but thought it was more of a short-term thing. Wonder if Jaiswal makes it into the squad especially with Rohit potentially not fit either.
๐จ NO VIRAT KOHLI IN ODI SERIES Vs AFGHANISTAN ๐จ
- Virat Kohli ruled out of the ODI series against Afghanistan due to hamstring injury. (Abhishek Tripathi).
@bent_copper Shocked by that choice tbh. Get Fox's overall utility as a ballhandler over the course of the game (especially keeping Castle's TOs down) but Harper is better at too many valuable things (defense, finishing) and was having a great game.
@wrdgafidc There's always that tension with the first one because until it happens you don't know if it's even possible or if they'll find a way to mess it up like the several times in the past. Then the dam bursts so to speak.
Hope Siraj is rested tbh. Don't want them to look at the crazy Eng series last year as the norm, should treat that as the miracle it was. Saw in 2024 the effect that big workload had on his pace and effectiveness.
* Mohammed Siraj's availability hangs in balance
* A workload call in next 48 hours
* If Siraj rested, Gurnoor Brar could make his debut; Auqib Nabi will be added to squad
* Initial reluctance to rest. Didn't want inexperienced attack

@wrdgafidc Almost the entire Indian contingent had great seasons and in this league that's incredibly important even if you have multiple OS guys who'd traditionally get attention being up and down. So refreshing to see after the history of this franchise too.
Think the lengths were pretty notable. Not a case of going super full early looking for swing to do all the work. Used the good and hard lengths effectively even in the PP and paired with seam movement, had batters who tried to loft in serious trouble.
@dweplea@beentumbling This was something that came to mind watching batters on some of the Asia Cup pitches last year (which were even a step down from that) or early wicket situations like the final. Just the level of control as a batter he had in that period was absurd.
@ApurvNigudkar_@TweetsByShayan Crazy wristspin bashing in particular. Smashed it in that 2013-17 phase in general but 2016 was the peak of that. Scored 200+ runs at nearly 200 SR vs it with a boundary every 3.75 balls.
Yeah, overall a very good effort in the field especially in a season where it felt like multiple teams were dropping over a catch a match. It's what made the SRH game so notable, specifically dropping Abhishek that many times. But fortunately an anomaly.
One aspect we don't talk about is the fielding this season. Tidy af... V few dropped catches, no unnecessary fumbles or misfields. Jitesh was top class with the gloves. Catching in slips was was flawless. Teams had their campaigns derailed because of fielding.
