Just down the street from my house, at least 4 individuals were detained along Harbor Blvd and Garden Grove Blvd in Garden Grove. These folks are my neighbors and my constituents. I will not stop speaking up until our community feels safe again!
I'm proud to back Connie Chan for Congress to represent San Francisco and plan to do everything I can to help her win. She is the only candidate in this race who takes no corporate money, who supports a wealth tax on billionaires, and who will vote to end all military aid to Israel - offensive and defensive.
We must break the stranglehold of corporate money in Congress, and Connie will be a part of the movement to do exactly that.
UPDATE: My office has been notified that @Cal_OES has formally submitted a request to @SBAgov to make Economic Injury Disaster Loans available to small businesses impacted by the Garden Grove hazmat crisis. Immediately following the crisis, I urged SBA to swiftly approve these vital funds for our community and will continue to ensure resources are available to our small businesses.
Today, I honored our hero first responders on the floor of the House of Representatives. They neutralized the tank at the GKN Aerospace facility in Garden Grove and got 50,000 neighbors home safely. But our community is still picking up the pieces of this crisis. I am calling on GKN to take full responsibility.
Now that the evacuation orders have been lifted, I am focused on getting justice for the 50,000 families who were displaced by the emergency at GKN Aerospace. I've called on GKN leaders to not only take full responsibility for this weekend's chaos, but also to meet with our neighbors and work to rebuild their trust. Our community can't thrive if they're scared of hazards in their own backyard.
Last weekend, I was amazed by the sense of community in Orange County in a time of crisis. While my team and I assisted those impacted by the evacuations, I was struck by how many good Samaritans were willing to help their neighbors in need.
Thank you, @andy_abeyta, for highlighting how local residents were looking out for one another.

Earlier today, I visited sites in Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach that are providing housing and relief for those evacuated because of the Garden Grove hazardous waste leak. Grateful to the Red Cross for their work here and to all the many who have stepped up to help.
It’s moments like this that remind me how wonderful our OC community is in stepping up to help those in need. Thank you.
In Garden Grove, all hands are on deck – from first responders to environmental experts – to contain hazardous risks and shelter residents. Evacuation zones are shrinking, and work is going on around the clock to bring this incident to an end.
To aid in that effort, @RepDerekTran, @SenAlexPadilla, and I urged the administration to declare a federal emergency, and they did. This should help unlock support for the affected communities.

There is no place for politics during emergency disasters.
I’m calling on President Trump to immediately grant our request for federal resources in response to the ongoing hazardous materials incident in Garden Grove.
My highest priority is the safety and wellbeing of our community, and I urge everyone to continue following guidance from local officials.
The state’s whole-of-government response in #GardenGrove includes real-time environmental monitoring, evacuations, traffic control, shelter operations, and community assistance as crews continue working to protect public safety.
