I’m a great tipper. Always have been. I always “err” on the side of ‘too much.’ But my feelings on this are rapidly changing. Especially as automation is replacing service, and what “service” remains is becoming more surly.
I’m really, REALLY not a fan of three things now becoming more and more prevalent in the restaurant game:
1 - No printed menus. Pulling up the menu from a QR code on my phone, but worse yet …
2 - Having to navigate and figure out on my own how to place the order, customize, make a special request … then having to register and enter a payment from a card or ApplyPay, or whatever. And then it gets even worse …
3 - The final bill has an automatic service fee of 20%, (or some other BS 3% “we’re in hard times” fee), before offering another line to add an additional gratuity. (I’ve actually missed seeing the included auto tip before, and unknowingly added my normal gratuity.)
At a recent DC restaurant experience, I got all three in one shot. The only “service” was someone who walked my order to the table from the kitchen. Then, the gratuity was already included in the “shopping cart” when I closed out the bill.
Never again. Going out to eat is too damn expensive these days, yet a necessity when traveling. If I want bad or no service, I’ll do the drive through at Burger King. I will from this point forward “tip accordingly” to the level of service received.
Larry Krasner, the far-left District Attorney of Philadelphia, says he wants to "blow up" the new White House ballroom as part of an "official ceremony."
The Left is obsessed with violence and destruction.
Homeless people are only homeless because of mental health, and drug reasons.
I've offered 100's of them jobs. Everytime they ask for money, its the same thing..
"No, but I'll give you a job if you want one. Get you some clothes, your id etc".
Usually the answer is "Fuck you", "Fuck you Asshole", or "fuck you in the asshole"... or some variant of this.
There are no starving people in america. There is no real homelessness problem in america. There is only drugs, and mental problems... both probably exacerbating the other.
Spin up a 1000 forced drug rehab centers, reopen the loony bins and this all gets fixed in 5 years.
Carl Icahn on the 12 floors of employees he fired after nobody could explain what they actually did
"I get control of this company, ACF. They had 12 floors on Third Avenue. I'm a good numbers guy, a good poker player, I'm going to go understand what they do. They send me to the 12th floor with my yellow pad, and they're explaining, this guy does this, these guys do that. I go to the seventh floor, spend the whole day, go home, look at my yellow pad, and I can't figure out what the hell they do. I go back the next day, the ninth floor, the eighth floor. I'm not an idiot, and I can't figure out what they do. I ask, what do you need him for? Oh, this is very arcane stuff, you're not going to understand it"
"So I call the guy who actually runs the plant in St. Louis, Joe. A John Wayne character, a former Marine captain, a tough guy. He shows me what he does, and I understand it, boom boom. We go have a martini, and I say, Joe, how many of those guys in New York do you need to support your operation? He says, I need minus 30. I say, what does that mean, minus 30? He says, because you don't have the balls to do what I'll tell you to do. Get rid of all of them tomorrow, and I'll need 30 people less to support them with numbers they make me send that I don't need"
"I still couldn't believe it. So I bring in consultants, the great leasing experts in the world, a professor from Columbia. Quarter of a million dollars, three weeks. They come back with a book this big, yellow graphs, red graphs, green graphs. I say, I'm colorblind anyway, just tell me what they do. And he smiles and says, you've been square with us, so I'm going to tell you something. We don't know what they do either. I am not joking"
"So I called Joe up, gave everybody severance, nobody was mad, got rid of the whole 12 floors, and sold the lease for 10 million dollars. And here's the thing. If you shut down a grocery store, you'd hear from somebody, the apples weren't right. If you had a flower shop, somebody's roses wilted. This was like a science fiction movie. It was like they never existed. I never got a letter. I never got anybody calling me"
Sometimes the best way to run a hostile interview is to just let the other guy talk.
Hasan: Imagine you're a baker, and you can bake 15 loaves of bread. Next, you hire a worker, and together, you can make 20 loaves of bread. The boss takes home 15 loaves and the worker gets 5. My plan is to give the baker 10 loaves and the worker 10.
The absurdities are fractal -- every angle you look at it from, it's dumb in a new way. Why would I hire someone if it meant a 50% cut in my own pay? Why does Hasan want to give the worker more than his own share of productivity? If an employee's marginal contribution is 5 loaves of bread, why would I also pay him 5 loaves?
The Mao suit fits him well, I think.
I went in work today. I told my boss that I hate our company and am actively working to dismantle it. I pledged my allegiance to our competitor. I told them our company sucks and I’m taking two weeks off, with pay. Who cares what our customers want. I’m doing what I want.
Just kidding. I’d get fired.
Only members of Congress are allowed to do that.
In the United States, if you destroy a Bald Eagle egg:
$100k fine.
1 year in prison.
Because an unborn Eagle.
Is still an Eagle.
I wonder how else this applies.
