We had a ๐ time on Tuesday @ our Masterclass. We talked about what needs to happen in order to shift towards a +ve wellbeing climate in ed. I love to introduce ppl to this model to break approaches to wellbeing down into the diff responsibilities we have to make the weather. ๐
@PookyH Great nugget Pooky, thank you for some useful reminders! I loved your comment about calm/masking and that this needs to come with self-care. Fab work!
@thosethatcan I remind myself that I'm only good at my job & of use in safeguarding if I safeguard my own energy. It is impossible (for me) stay cognitively alert, apply critical thinking, hold emotional space for ppls, staff, parents, write coherent reports if I regularly work 10+ hours...1/2
Self-awareness is perhaps one of the biggest challenges when spinning multiple plates, attending to numerous needs of pupils, staff, parents all under the pressure of lack of time & resources. But when in under stress, becoming self-aware is ๐ so we can regulate/avoid burnout.
Stress can come in different forms and our ability to deal with it differs from person to person. The key to dealing with stress is being aware of our own limits. What is too much right now, what are your 'musts' and what are your 'this needs to wait', so that you can stay well?
I'd love to hear experiences and examples from #edutwitter on parental engagement. How have you managed to involve parents, get them 'on board', build trust between school and home? @PastoralAht @Mellow_Pascoe @PastoralThings @PastoralFella @Pastoral_N@PastoralLeaders
@vroni_chidemo@PastoralAht @Mellow_Pascoe @PastoralThings @PastoralFella @Pastoral_N@PastoralLeaders We have a new book coming out in January with a chapter on co-production and working with parents. I work as an expert by experience locally & nationally to raise up marginalised parent voices. ๐ https://t.co/TYuIUIH9sG
@teamsquarepeg@PastoralAht @Mellow_Pascoe @PastoralThings @PastoralFella @Pastoral_N@PastoralLeaders Amazing, thank you! Will look out for the book, it looks really interesting ๐๐ป. Co-production in all areas with all (ppls, parents, staff) is so important. How can schools do that better, what do you think? I'm trying to support the school where I'm a governor with some ideas...
@MrsBrown_SEMH 2/2 to recognise earlier that it's not about how much energy I spend but how long I manage to keep going.... Hope this helps. Here for a chat if you want a sounding board.
@MrsBrown_SEMH I did! On the one hand these two roles can go together well, as you will have direct oversight of the MH curriculum. On the other hand, depending on your other teaching commitments, this might be a lot. One thing I would do differently would be to pace myself and.. 1/2
โค๏ธ how everyone is embracing complexity, & diversity into everything they do in mental health research - like @drSarahParry & others who have worked w/ people w/ lived experience of hearing voices. Certainly feels like co-production is at the heart of this summit #EmergingMinds
