Things you really want to avoid:
1) Having a lot of money without having time
2) Being married to someone you don't love
3) Having friends you can't be fully open with
4) Being smart without feeling mentally at peace
5) Knowing what to do without having the courage to act
@G_S_Bhogal I wonder if, in the future, there will be a label like 'No Made by AI' to distinguish products and make them more expensive compared to those created by AI, similar to “Handmade”.
Society rewards hyperspecialization, and people just follow the incentives:
that’s how we ended up with people who can uncover the secrets of the universe but can’t figure out their own marriage,
or people who are respected by all except their own kids,
or people who teach others “how to be successful in life” who are actually angry and depressed,
or people who can solve the most complex problems but somehow cannot maintain a single long-term meaningful friendship with anyone.
You may not become “the best” if you have a well-balanced life, but at least,
you will have a shot at sustainable peace of mind,
and you may learn how to appreciate the people around you,
and enjoy a bit of the rewards that you actually worked hard to earn,
instead of living your whole life scared of missing out on the next big opportunity,
instead of chasing the wrong goals and noticing, way too late, that they didn’t matter as much as you thought at the time when you were younger,
when you thought you knew better, because you were simply surrounded by people who were as blind as you were.
Always be grateful to the people who helped you when you had nothing to give back in exchange. These people are rare, and often get less than they deserve, because they are quiet, humble, good people.
All the most talented, wealthy, happy and loved people that I know have a common point:
they mind their own business, they care about their family and friends, they are focused on themselves, they live private and quiet lives.
People who are good at remaining calm under pressure are just people who went through a lot of stressful situations, and who learned how to take responsibility instead of acting like a victim.
The best antidote to burnout and mental exhaustion is remembering that the sun will rise again. Every sleep is a mini death, every morning, a mini resurrection, every day, a new mercy. You can always start again tomorrow—it’s your memories of yesterday that tend to hold you back
At twenty, your situation reflects your childhood circumstances.
At forty, your situation reflects your own decisions as an independent adult.
At sixty, your situation reflects how much positive impact you had on the lives of other people you met throughout your life.
Time alone is never lonely if you are spending it meaningfully.
Time in the company of others is always lonely if you are not surrounded by the right people.
It’s not that money doesn’t buy happiness, it’s just that people, during their pursuit of money, neglect their family, their friends, their health, their hobbies, everything that makes up a happy life, then realize they have money, but are now old and lost everything that matters
A happy life is a simple life
1) A family you love who loves you back
2) A healthy body built from years of good sleep, good diet, good exercise
3) A clear mind built from years of reading, writing, following your curiosity
4) A purpose that provides meaning and peace of mind
