Mesophotic reefs are thought to be resistant to bleaching due to their 30m+ depth. Diaz et al. show bleaching of corals at depths of 90m, possibly due to warm surface waters being pushed deeper.

a pyrosome (tube-shaped sea squirt colony) seems to have gotten stuck, as it should be hanging out in the water column #Okeanos

Thanks Narissa for co-chairing this nice session and share our results! I would say seafloor temperature likely drives bryozoan mineralogy at the global scale. At a local scale it remains unclear as the data are still limited as you already said. So we need more studies on it 👩‍🔬.
