Discord users in the Philippines may have trouble connecting to the app.

This started after the CICC warned Discord and Reddit that they could face restrictions unless they appointed local representatives.

Both companies responded. CICC then extended the deadline.

Discord has not been officially banned nationwide. However, many Globe and DITO users report connection errors. This points to a block at the internet-provider level, most likely DNS filtering, not a full government shutdown.

What users report works for now: switch to Google DNS (8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4) or Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1 / 1.0.0.1), then restart the app.

UPDATE: The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) clarified that the extension granted in connection with its 24-hour directive applies only to Reddit and does not cover Discord.

"Reddit was granted an extension after its officials met with CICC online within the prescribed 24-hour period and engaged with the agency on specific commitments that the Philippines urgently needs to strengthen online child safety," CICC said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Discord reached out to the CICC to discuss its existing teen safety measures, but no extension has been granted pending direct talks and concrete commitments, the agency added.

The clarification came after the CICC initially said it had granted Reddit and Discord an extension to comply with its directive to establish local offices in the Philippines.
