The Free Speech Union is bringing a judicial review against Communities Secretary Steve Reed, challenging his decision to impose an official definition of ‘anti-Muslim hostility’ (Islamophobia).
This is a Muslim blasphemy law by the back door, which will silence legitimate criticism of Islam and prevent people from speaking out on issues such as the grooming gangs scandal.
The proposed definition is vague and subjective, and liable to be weaponised to shut down lawful debate about Islam, Muslims, and Islamic practices and history.
Adopting such a definition — let alone appointing an Islamophobia ‘Tsar’ — breaches the ‘occupying the field’ doctrine in public law.
Our lawyers have sent a Pre-Action Protocol letter setting out why the definition is unlawful, and have asked the Government to pause both its rollout and the appointment of the ‘Tsar’ until the case is resolved.
Judicial reviews against Secretaries of State are costly, but this is a fight we must win.
Blasphemy laws were abolished by Parliament in 2008 — let’s keep it that way.

@SangitaMyska@Telegraph Islam is a religion not a race. Being a journalist you really should know the difference. The candidate sucking up to a misogynistic religion to capture votes actually goes against your narrative.
@carolecadwalla You seem to not understand the difference between “race” and “religion”. No religion is above the law, and anyone is free to raise concerns about the actions and practices of an extremist cult like Islam.
@5Pillarsuk There is no Blasphemy law in the UK. If an individual want to say “Fuck Islam” and “Islam is a religion of Terrorism” and “Islam is the religion of Paedophiles and Goat Fuckers” then they are entitled to do so without fear of prosecution.
This is a very important post by @npovmedia please watch. Anyone who is not aware of what is going on inside Iran and the worst extermination of human beings in contemporary modern history, be aware that the regime is dominating social media algorithms. #IranMassacre

@zarahsultana@Prisoners4Pal How about a nice Bacon Sandwich 🥪 for them, they can even choose Red sauce, Brown sauce or no sauce at all.
But in terms of sympathy, no fucking chance.
@MartinSLewis Chancellor, if I the money I pay into a pension is now no longer pre-tax, can I assume that any withdrawal from said pension will be tax exempt?
