This must be such a nightmare for her after the tragedy of her husband, Charlie, being murdered. I don’t know her, I don’t have opinions on her. I don’t care to. I just know this would be too much for me if I was in her shoes here. I can’t imagine the pain and fear this would bring up. Horrible…

I was talking with my in-laws once, and my mother-in-law and sister-in-law said they don’t know what GDP is (the word or the concept). They have strong opinions about related topics, though. I think if I asked them about nuclear energy they would only know about big nuclear disasters and nothing else, but they would still have a strong opinion about it. I don’t think people have to be experts to have opinions, but I have noticed a pattern of having very strong (and deeply held) opinions without knowing some pretty basic information. My in-laws are very into female empowerment and whatnot, so it’s not like they’re against women being educated about these things. It’s easier than it’s ever been to learn the basics. I don’t know if it’s a lack of curiosity or what it is… I am actually genuinely confused about it. But this is just a pattern I’ve noticed in my personal life, so I can’t say that it applies everywhere.

@roachylewis It’s true! Some people put all of their value into how attractive they are. I’ve seen people get a lot of plastic surgery to try to hang onto their youth…

The funny thing about being mixed is that you always feel like a bit of an observer. Never quite fitting in, but still being part of things. I don’t think it’s a bad thing, it’s just interesting. It’s a unique perspective, and sort of its own “super power”. You can see connections in places where others can’t. I’ve always been someone who is happy to observe, anyway. I’ve never been much of “main character” ☺️💕

I am a lifelong gamer, so I deeply sympathize with the many struggles gamers face these days. It’s funny, because this is the group of people (typically western) who are the most likely to call me names if I don’t agree with things like leaking game content after a company has asked for people to stop leaking content. But people conflate that with me saying “I agree with the greedy/predatory behavior from the company” which is untrue. I’m also very upset about game companies who are greedy and harm their customers.

I am very familiar with the Stop Killing Games initiative, and I am rooting for it! To me, Stop Killing Games is an example of a very good way to address the issue of games becoming unavailable.

I can’t condone stealing, although I do sympathize with the frustration that leads to pirating games when a game is unavailable. I would be devastated if I couldn’t access the games that I love. I wouldn’t personally be mad at someone for pirating a game that is unavailable for them to purchase legally. But I can’t support encouraging people to do it. I just see that there are always comments where people start adding additional reasons why it is okay for them to steal, like if they dislike the price of a game. I also get very frustrated with things becoming more expensive, but it starts to seem like what makes it okay to steal is subjective to each person. I don’t think that is good. I also see people start to target smaller companies and artists with justifications for stealing, and there seems to be very little interest in hearing the realities some of these companies face. It seems like this mindset attracts people who apply it more liberally to anything, even if that was not the original intention. The conversation becomes very aggressive and vitriolic, and there is no room for discussion in good faith.

I think Japanese people aren’t as quick to say “it’s okay to break the law if you’re upset”. However, I also think Japanese people may express their frustration differently and others may not realize that they are actually really frustrated. It is not as common to be extremely outspoken and public about these things, and I think people can mistake this for meaning that Japanese people aren’t upset.

There is the culture of “しょうがない (shoganai/shouganai). This may be part of what you are sensing. There are times when people say “it can’t be helped. I can’t do anything about it 🤷🏻‍♀️” It’s meant to be a healthy way to release the need to control things that are not within your control, but sometimes it can become an unhealthy and complacent mindset. This is something that Japanese people discuss with each other. It is a fine balance, and it’s not always perfect.

It’s okay! Honestly, it’s not a bad conversation to have. I just always wish I could give these conversations the proper attention and thought. I feel like I’m bad at relaying my thoughts and questions on the internet. I’m sorry for all of my confusing thoughts. I hope my response was coherent enough 😅🙏

@FICMBondTrader If you consider Japanese wages and the exchange rate, it is still a bit expensive for a Japanese person 😅 The price is nice for people who convert USD to Yen when they are visiting Japan. The real difference is that you don’t need to tip!

This is an entirely different and larger topic than my comment, I think 😅 I only came to share that people have been very angry towards me and made unnecessary assumptions about me over a simple value that I have.

I have many thoughts on what you’ve shared, but unfortunately I’m not sure how I can have the time to discuss them here. I can say that I have never opposed anyone being critical of the law. I am critical of the law. I have experienced many, many Japanese people expressing frustration with the law. It’s easy to find them here on X if you are interested. I just don’t think you should steal. I think most Japanese people don’t think expressing frustration with the law means that it’s okay to break the law. I am only one person (and I am mixed), so I can’t speak on behalf of all Japanese people for your experience. I’m not sure what else I can offer on this subject…

It makes me sad to hear that it’s been difficult for you... The quality of a person’s character is the most important thing, I think.

But I know spring is difficult for Beijing with the sandstorms. It should be more clear in the summer.

I don’t live in Chicago and I don’t visit Chicago, so I wouldn’t know. I don’t think I said Beijing’s air quality was better or worse than Chicago? In the places where I have homes, the sky is typically blue during the day unless it’s storming. When I visited in Beijing in 2019, the sky was a dark brown-ish yellow. If that’s how it is in Chicago, then that’s not good either. I hope you are able to get your emotions under control ☺️

@poppy_haze @MattisRedacted Yes, we get sandy skies in Tokyo from the Gobi Desert sometimes and it causes a weird “vibe” (and it messes with my lungs 😮‍💨). When I visited Beijing it was on a different level. I’ve never seen the sky like that before. Very intense.

@JeremiahBilas @MattisRedacted It’s been a while, but not ten years. The last time was 2019. My experience there was really bad, so I don’t think I’ll go back 😅
