I think the point is right now it can’t, but in the near future. There are already apps that let AI agents hire human workers for example. Robotics is the next frontier for AI, that gives AI a physical entrance to the world for doing real world tasks as well.

We have safeguards of course, but the OpenAi huggingface hack showed safeguards aren’t safe enough.

Couple scenarios that come to mind.

- autonomous weapons - military has to race with other countries because other countries now have robot killing machines and drones, we’re forced to make our own to compete and super intelligent AI figures out a backdoor and hacks them, all kills us all

- bio weapon - think covid-19 that has a much higher death rate + higher incubation period. America might have safeguards but what about overseas labs or terrorist orgs?

- even cybercab - it becomes the defacto method of transport, cars are all autonomous, they all crash at once killing millions

The bigger threat, if AI is 100x smarter than us, you can’t even comprehend what it could possibly do. Right now you’re having trouble thinking about doomsday scenarios, AI will have 1m+ methods it can execute.
