PEOPLE KEEP SAYING THE NEW SNAPE LOOKS WRONG… BUT WHAT IF WE’RE JUST USED TO ALAN RICKMAN?

The movies gave us an unforgettable Snape, but Rickman was 55 when Philosopher’s Stone came out.

Book Snape was 31.

That changes the character more than people realize.

The HBO series isn’t trying to recreate Rickman’s Snape. It’s going back to the books and giving us a younger, harsher version of the character — closer to the man Rowling actually wrote.

Paapa Essiedu doesn’t need to replace Alan Rickman.

He needs to play Snape.

And honestly, maybe that’s exactly what fans need to see.

Are we judging the new Snape against the books — or against Rickman?

Probably unpopular opinion of the century: I am really liking the look of Snape

Like so many others, I disagreed with the casting choice of Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape. But I must admit having seen him in the teaser trailer and now this behind-the-scenes documentary, I’ve been turned and would be lying if I said I wasn’t beginning to like this different take on the character and I’m also very intrigued to see Essiedu’s performance. He said he’s read the books but not seen the films which is a huge green flag for me. He’s such a talented actor and I hope he knocks it out of the park.
