Omg. I was having this *exact* conversation w/a friend yesterday. As someone who !hates! asking for stuff, I’m learning that being a true part of a community is not just giving. You’re also supposed to take from it + give people the opportunity to give to you.
Interesting perspective! Royal Colleges & medical schools have to explain to Drs why they must train so hard, be so rigorously examined & put up with terrible pay, conditions & debt, when non-medics get to the same place with so very little effort. One way or other must be wrong.
Requiring a medical qualification to practice medicine is NOT about hierarchy -
It’s simply ensuring the person doing the job is qualified for that role.
Same with:
Pharmacy degree
Nursing degree
Physiotherapy degree
Medicine is no different.
I cannot stress enough how important it is to speak up for yourself when someone is crossing your boundaries or dismissing your feelings. You are your biggest advocate. No one else can read your mind or feel what you feel.
Claiming an ACP who leaves their profession of nursing/physiotherapy etc then completes 2yr part time MSc in so called ‘advanced clinical practice’ is equivalent to a middle grade dr is a dangerous fantasy with serious consequences for standard of healthcare available in U.K.
I'm not even talking about opinions on what season is better or who should've come back.
I'm saying a basic understanding of what's happening in a plot line. It's crazy because this is a light piece of work, very little in the way of depth, yet comprehension still escapes some.
I've seen some comments about Bridgerton over the last few days that have convinced me that some people watch TV with their eyes closed and ears plugged.
Media literacy is in the depths of hell!
Me choosing a new murder suspect every episode in His & Hers on Netflix just to be caught all the way off guard in the final few minutes. Whew now that’s how you do a plot twist. #HisAndHers#hisandhersnetflix
Document your life in photographs and writing. Let there be markers clearly showing where the time went. Don’t take moments for granted because moments make up lifetimes. Love people and treat them with kindness. Be patient. Speak up. Rest. Take care of yourself.
This year has taught me that a good year can also be a hard year. I have held joy and pain in equal measure. The joy hasn't made it less painful & the pain hasn't made it less joyful. It’s the year I learnt what it means to hold all things in a delicate balance.
I eat it all on Christmas. I can be a geezer and a bush babe all in one. Roast in the early afternoon, Jollof in the late afternoon, curry goat in the evening. Bobs your uncle, Funke’s your aunt, let’s foken Ave it mi seh.
Rest in peace to Dr Aggrey Burke, the NHS’ first Black consultant psychiatrist.
Here's a very good piece from 2022 which maps out his life and formidable career.
A truly significant figure in Black British history who deserves continued recognition.
