@simonmaechling Science, without doubt, has improved our lives in tremendous ways. But does that mean that everything that science produces is good, healthy, or optimal? Like most things, there is a sweet spot.
Look at his position. And look at the context. Big agrochemical companies have been tempering with our food supply more and more through the last few decades, more pesticides, more genetic altering, more chemical food additives. It’s hard to find something at the grocery store that doesn’t have 13 thousand ingredients.
He literally works at one of those companies (Bayer pharmaceutical) and all of his posts are basically PR. His statements in a vacuum are correct. But he cannot say them because of this position.
It’s like a wife beater telling his wife that “physical touch is good for human connection.” That’s technically a true statement! But without the context it’s completely misunderstood.
@Vox_Oculi It was my suspicion that the trans community would eventually replace attraction with "the wrong genitals", but is that something that they openly admit to now? It seems like something they wouldn't be aware that they're doing.
@JulianeWriter So true. They don't really listen to what you say on its own merits. They look to see where you stand in the hierarchy to determine if they should listen to you
@JoelleMosso@simonmaechling You seem like someone who looks at science with a healthy, non-dogmatic lens. I have a question, how do you feel about the fact that the philosophy piece of science isn't really part of scientists' education?
two things. 1) The experts aren't really experts. They're experts in science, but they know nothing about the -philosophy- of said science, which makes their viewpoint incomplete. (refer to image)
2) Their lack of understanding of the philosophy leaves a giant void. That void is filled by the business class and the entrepreneurs who's intentions are more-so to make money than to solve problems with the most correct solution.
@simonmaechling Technology, in it's relationship to agriculture has a sweet spot. If you overdo it, you start to harm the product. That's what we're doing now we are adding endless amounts of chemical additives, GMO's, pesticides, etc.
