Spent an hour Saturday morning walking the ground where I'll be sitting once the season opens. Not hunting, just scouting. Some prep isn't about doing anything. It's about knowing the land before you need to.
My wife and I don't track a household budget together. We track one number: what's left after the fixed costs clear. It's blunt, it's not pretty, and it's the only number that's ever kept us honest with each other.
Sighted in the bow this week and missed high three times before I figured out I'd been anticipating the shot instead of trusting it. Same mistake I make in hard conversations. You flinch before the thing even happens.
Had an interesting (and encouraging) conversation with one of my daughters on the Sydney Sweeney situation last night. Her two hot takes?
1. The ad does nothing to set back women's sports - people not watching women sports is what sets it back (coming from a future female collegiate athlete).
2. That ad is a bad look/message for all the little girls who look up to Sydney Sweeney and preys on men's simplicities.
Sometimes you get little gifts that show you you're doing things right as a parent.
@EchelonFront Just another tool in the tool box - the key (at least in my experience) is that an indirect approach should only be used when time is on your side. Immediacy requires directness.
@AshleySinclair0@meathead_prof He clearly was talking about God and not himself. But reading comprehension can be hard sometimes I guess. Your incessant replies to his posts show a real inner struggle and need to justify the choices you've made in life. I hope you find peace some day.
@meathead_prof Very thorough review - at the end of the day, I look at it this way…would I be comfortable seeing my daughter in that ad? No? Then I probably shouldn’t be looking at it.
One of my engineers told me my suggestion was wrong in front of the whole team last week. He was right. I used to think a good manager had the best answer in the room, but I've learned that a good manager builds a room where someone else feels safe enough to correct him.
If your year runs on resolutions instead of check-ins, try this: pick one number two weeks before the quarter ends, and see what you'd still change. → https://t.co/jbyMaRikNE
Reply: I'm married, have twin daughters, and run the engineering depart for a defense contractor, so "no time" was my favorite excuse for years too. Twenty minutes of real effort beats an hour of half effort every time. The guys who actually change their bodies are the ones who show up short on time, not the ones waiting for a perfect week.
Every strong family I know starts with two people who keep choosing each other, especially on the hard days. My marriage isn't perfect (show me one that is), but it's the one thing I protect above nearly everything else, because I've seen what happens to a family once that foundation cracks
87.5 miles is still further than almost anyone will push themselves at any single point in a lifetime. I've never gone anywhere near that distance, but I know the feeling of digging past what you thought you had left. What stood out most was your wife right there with you the whole way. That's the difference between grinding alone and grinding with someone in your corner.
@JockoQuoteDb The days I lead my team the best are the days I show up early and stay late, not the days I just hand out assignments. Leadership isn't the title on your badge; it's the example nobody has to ask you to set.
The first morning this week I needed a jacket for the walk to the car. Nothing dramatic, just the first sign that fall's coming. And that means hunting season is upon us!
