@HiddenYorkshire as a curator I've met/ talked with people who lived through very dark times and even they've been surprised about how positive their memories were, attitude of you're young/ you just enjoy yourself
@HiddenYorkshire think Dickens summed it up best-It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. My Dad had a great war as a child playing mock battles on bombsites/ collecting shrapnel after air raids etc, Mum had an awful war - both in Birmingham/ Mum 2 yrs older.
In 2003, I was 9 years old & I auditioned to play Jeremy in Chitty @ the Palladium. I got a recall then got cut. I was in the street crying into the arms of my grandma when a man stopped and asked if I was ok. My grandma explained and he wrote me this. It was Anthony Head. RIP π
@_F_B_G_ know your subject/do your research, be passionate, be enthusiastic, love what your doing, know what your key messages are, be quirky/make it memorable, make jokes, make it about real people, share it - ex-curator/ academic researcher/ Methodist worship leader/ chapel dogsbody π
@WalkerMarcus maybe safeguarding & EDI etc is basically about being kind, being caring, being considerate & that we all have a responsibility to act that way & call people/ institutions/ systems etc out when we witness the opposite (& not look the other way - nb Good Samaritan)
@HiddenYorkshire it is - always thought it was the movie that caught the spirit of '1984' far better than the '1984' movie made in 1984 (the year I read my way through all the George Orwell books) plan having theme tune played at my funeral (very loudly)
@_F_B_G_ thank you for the explanation/ definition, from age of 8 I've only known it as one of the weekly spelling test words, one of many I wasn't able to spell (only one I didn't know meaning of). Being dyslexic in the 1960s-70s was 'interesting'
as an ex-curator I have no problems with any of this (ok... I admit it took me a minute to realise why they were oxymorons tbh ) maybe working in a museum is the biggest oxymoron (if you're in the right place - you're really not working tbh)
Given the degree of negative sniping/ ill feeling etc on X, it's good to be reminded of things/ people/ stuff in general that are positive/ upifting and joyful - congratulations to Leonie Hughes for aiming high & going for it
More importantly though, today is also Saint Gertrude of Nivelles day.
Saint Gertrude is the patron saint of cats, cat lovers and gardeners.
Take extra naps and enjoy special treats to celebrate πββ¬π
Railway preservation on an epic scale began three-quarters of a century ago at @TalyllynRailway. Come join us in Wales in May for an INCREDIBLE weekend of stories & trains from 1950s 1960s 1970s 1980s 1990s and the years after @spicegirls broke up. Say youβll be thereβ¦ I will!π
