Comparto una reflexión sobre algo que creo que deberíamos debatir más cuando hablamos de IA educativa:
Usar IA no significa necesariamente innovar.

Most lit reviews fail at the scope stage.
If you don’t define what’s in or out, you’ll read everything and understand nothing.
How do you set the boundaries for your review?

BACK TO THE FUTURE was released 39 years ago today. One of the most beloved movies of the 1980s, and the film that made Michael J. Fox a movie star, the behind-the-scenes story is pretty heavy…

"Designing and delivering a high-quality online course is time-consuming. At Oregon State University, faculty take two full terms to develop an online course, and they must complete training on developing and teaching online." #onlinelearning https://t.co/t7yCeBB8zb

At Steplab, we're *obsessed* with codifying great teaching.
Eg. we've just spent 3 months re-organising our steps around a 'simple model of teaching'.
This is to help...
A. Coaches make better diagnoses
B. Teachers develop more expertise
A geeky thread:

Here are expanded descriptions of the 14 mechanisms from the theory proposed in the paper "Effective teacher professional development: new theory and a meta-analytic test" by Sims, Fletcher-Wood, O’Mara-Eves et al.:
For Insight:
- Managing cognitive load involves focusing on a single idea or task, removing redundant information, or providing worked examples. This prevents working memory from becoming overloaded during learning, as shown by research in education and medical training (Sweller et al., 2019; Fraser et al., 2015).
- Revisiting material means reteaching or prompting recall of ideas on separate occasions to strengthen memory. Reviews show this aids learning in classroom and lab settings (Adesope et al., 2017; Rohrer, 2015).
For Goals:
- Goal setting means agreeing on specific objectives around changing teaching practice. This directs attention and energy toward the target change, as goal setting research shows (Locke & Latham, 2002; Epton et al., 2017).
- Credible source involves presenting empirical research findings supporting the change. Studies show statistical evidence and justified arguments help change intentions across domains (O’Keefe, 1998; Hornikx, 2005).
- Reinforcement means praising or restating the value of a teaching practice, which increases motivation in various settings (Delin & Baumeister, 1998).
For Technique:
- Instruction provides guidance on how to implement a practice. Experimental research shows instruction helps acquire skills in education, health, sports, and other areas.
- Practical social support arranges advice from colleagues on implementing a practice. Studies show this aids adoption of new practices in medical and health settings (Grierson et al., 2012; Dale et al., 2012).
- Modelling provides an observable example of the target teaching practice. This visually guides subsequent practice, as shown in medical and education research (Cordovani & Cordovani, 2016; Renkl, 2014).
- Feedback involves receiving input on performance of a practice. Experiments show feedback improves acquisition of motor and other skills (Winstein & Schmidt, 1990).
- Rehearsal means opportunities to practice and repeat the target skill. Reviews demonstrate rehearsal helps encode skills across domains (Ericsson et al., 1993).
For Practice:
- Action planning specifies when and how to use the practice in a future lesson. This triggers the new practice, as action planning studies show (Gollwitzer & Sheeran, 2006; Webb & Sheeran, 2008).
- Context-specific repetition means rehearsing the practice in a realistic classroom setting. This helps overwrite old habits and embed the new practice, as research on habit formation demonstrates (Carels, 2011; Hobbiss et al., 2021).
- Prompts/cues are reminders for using the practice in relevant situations. Experiments show prompts help encode and trigger desired behaviors (Michie et al., 2009).
- Self-monitoring involves tracking one's own performance of the practice over time. Reviews indicate self-monitoring aids goal attainment across domains (Harkin et al., 2016).
