In 2026, let's walk together, finding every opportunity (and make our own if none are found) to hold candid conversations on oppression, to become aware, remain informed, and do the heavy lifting required. Let's find a way to cultivate hope, dismantle despair, summon courage, suppress ego, think critically, extend compassion, and ignite creative endeavor in each of us - You know, 'the stuff of great humanity. There's a wonderful generation coming up, looking for our example; we can do this.
Sometimes statements of denial and the choice not to question, speak up, or engage about real biases and prejudice is really a statement of, “I feel inadequate to the task. The problem is so vast, I can’t begin to help resolve it. I don’t know what I’m doing, and I will undoubtedly make mistakes and offend people if I try. It’s just easier if I stay quiet.” Plus, “If I do engage, I may lose friends, family, and colleagues along the way. And besides, I’m so tired, don’t make me invest in this, too.”
I know it’s hard, but individuals and communities dealing with real bias are having to live these biases from others 24/7 with little to no rest. They are denied basic humanity, a sense of legitimacy, and opportunities every single day. Let’s become aware of, and reverse legislate, policies that technically are not prejudicial, but in effect or function, result in prejudicial outcomes. Let’s build stamina and develop the skills of constructive confrontation and dismantling that which we find racist, LGBTQA+-phobic, or prejudicial. Let’s get to the point where justice, compassion, and humane treatment are everyday Oxygen – nothing to see here as it’s our normal culture. Yeah, it takes reading, talking, reading, reflecting, passing legislation, questioning, and talking some more, but we can do this. 3/3
Found this moving piece by Carl Hendrick today, "The Humility of the Page: The Lost Ethics of Deep Reading- Why attention to words is attention to others and why it matters," May 29, 2025 It resonated as truth, and in many places something we're losing. This might give us all a bit more investment in our own deep reading and in sharing the experience with others. https://t.co/ZorItTC1PP
@rickwormeli2 Thanks Rick. Those are really good suggestions. Doing some PD for teachers next month. I'm going to include one of these activities in our time together. Will see if this adds value to our time together. . . . I'll bet it does!
Every year, let's recommit to a constructive humanity. Here's one of my commitments, offered in hopes some might feel moved to make a positive statement as well: In every month, not just June, please know that any and all members of the LGBTQA+ community will find a ready advocate, a safe and listening ear, a warm hug, and a ceaselessly supportive colleague/neighbor/friend in me. We're moving into an even more precarious time for members of this community, given the ignorance of many, the emboldened nature of legislatures reversing previously established rights and protections, dangerous book bans, and many hypocritical religious intolerances. I stand with each of you as you present and live your authentic self, and as you navigate civic, religious, educational, legal, political, and personal challenges, some exceedingly urgent and dire, in a world that should have progressed further by now. Know that you are deeply valued just as you are, you enrich the world that needs you so, and that you are welcome in my life. We are better for you being here.
#OnThisDay in 1921, one of the deadliest racial massacres in U.S. history began in the thriving Greenwood African American community of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Black Wall Street in Tulsa, OK was destroyed by a racist mob. #APeoplesJourney#ANationsStory
@anndaraabrams @rickwormeli2 @JamaalBowmanNY I work in a private school system. We test three time a year. Testing isn't used to rank teachers or students. It is used by educators to adjust teaching to address gaps in learning. That is the valid and valuable use of testing.
We shouldn't listen to people because we agree with what they think. We should listen when we're impressed by how they think.

The interview team you choose is important. 💜💛
When a candidate walks away from an interview I hope they say “wow, I NEED to be part of that team”.
Yesterday all of our candidates left with a treat bag as a thank you for being interested in our school family. @GFSchools
