Here is why it takes time to reach your goals - and how to get there FASTER.
In the US, a 30-year-old man may be going through his first divorce.
Which means that by 22, he could have married his high school sweetheart, bought a house with her and probably already has 3 kids.
In Nigeria, marrying at 22 is too early.
Because you are not βmatureβ enough.
Plus, where will you get wedding money?
But the 22-year-old American got his first job at 20, and can have a family at 22. His economy allows it.
Whereas a 30-year-old Nigerian may still be trying to figure out his life.
Here is where it gets nasty.
A 22-year-old American believes 22 is a ripe age.
A 30-year-old Nigerian man may think 22 is too early.
Which means it is neither late nor early. It depends on where you live, and the economy you operate under.
This is ONE EXAMPLE of how your life experience influences how you see the world.
And one of the wrongest thinking models to adopt is to assume a time constraint for things that don't actually have a time constraint.
Sometimes, you are assuming something should take long because of the effect your society has imposed on your mind.
Another example is a friend of mine who used to pay β¦2M a year as rent in Festac, Lagos.
He thinks paying β¦7M a year for a duplex is a waste, even though he can afford it.
When he moved to Canada, he paid the equivalent of β¦1.5M a month, and he paid for it for 6 months from his Nigerian business.
According to him, it was the cheapest rent he saw in Canada.
Which brings me to why I am writing this.
What can help you move through life FASTER is to stop assuming CONSTRAINTS that do not exist.
Example:
β22 is too early to marry.β (Lie. You just don't have the money or experience yet)
ββ¦7M is too much for rent.β (Lie. You just don't make that much yet)
You feel me? You are holding too strong to your beliefs as absolute truth when na just your world view, and nothing more.
The right mental model to have here is the Parkinson's Law, which states that: βWork expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.β
Meaning: if you give yourself 7 days to do something that could take 2 hours, you will often find a way to spend 7 days doing it (eg: remember how you don't read until one week to exam - because you felt exam was far away)
To put this into perspective:
Humans once thought running a mile in under four minutes was basically impossible.
People would try it, get stressed, fail, and eventually accept that it couldn't be done.
Then, on May 6, 1954, British runner Roger Bannister pushed himself and ran the mile in 3 minutes, 59.4 seconds.
And funny enough, after he did it, other people started doing it too. Something people had struggled to achieve for years suddenly became normal.
The question is why? simple - Because the psychological constraint had been broken.
People now knew it was possible. So they attempted it, and because they attempted it - they made it happen.
It is the same with life.
Give a task less time and you force yourself to become more efficient.
So rather than assume that BUILDING A β¦50M-A-YEAR BUSINESS will take 10 years (we once did it in 6 months), and that you'll get there when you're what? 35? 45? 75?
Ask yourself:
How would I build this business in the next 2 years MAX?
If you give yourself 10 years, it may take 10 years.
If you give yourself 2, you will FIGURE OUT a way to do it in 2.
The shorter the time frame you impose on a plan, the faster you are forced to move towards it.
Sometimes, the problem isn't that your goal is far away. You just gave yourself too much time to get there. Someone your age, with the resources you have now - is doing it in less time.
PS: Not saying you should go and marry o, but you get the point (i hope)
Ever wondered what CHN and CSCS mean in the Nigerian stock market? Let me break it down in plain English.
CHN (Clearing House Number) is like your BVN for the stock market.
Itβs your unique investor ID. One person = one CHN. It stays the same forever, no matter which stockbroker you use (Bamboo, Chapel Hill Denham, Zedcrest, Cardinalstone, Meristem, Cowrywise etc.). It ties all your investments together so you can see your full portfolio across different brokers.
CSCS (Central Securities Clearing System) Account Number is like your bank account number.
This is what actually holds your shares. Each broker you open an account with usually gives you a different CSCS number, but theyβre all linked to your single CHN.
Simple analogy:
β’ CHN = Your National ID / BVN (who you are)
β’ CSCS = Your different bank accounts (where your money/shares live)
When you buy stocks, your shares are safely kept in your CSCS account and identified by your CHN.
Always keep both numbers safe. If you trade with multiple brokers, your CHN helps everything connect as one portfolio. Thatβs why I donβt mind having up to 3 or 4 brokersπ
Ask your stockbroker for your numbers if you donβt have them accessible on your app.
Do you have any questions?
If you found this helpful, you can consider reposting to your audience.
Many times, when right issue, bonus shares, or public offer shares are credited, it first reflects in your CSCS account before reflecting in your brokerage app.
You can access all the shares linked to your CHN (across different brokerages) together in your CSCS online account.
If you don't have a cscs online account, go to https://t.co/Bcho84D8PY,
on the top right corner, you will see log in, click it.
It will redirect you to portals homepage, you will see CSCS portal, click on register, fill in all information in accordance to information you provided your broker and payment mode should be online. And pay
Annual subscription is 5375 naira with charges.
Your CHN is one of the information you will be asked for. You should access it on your brokerage app, otherwise, contact your broker.
That should help

Tony Elumeluβs kids donβt need to read Rich Dad Poor Dad or binge content about wealth to learn how to βthink rich.β
They are living inside that reality.
Wealth is not an abstract concept to them. Theyβve seen it. Theyβve experienced it. Theyβve watched how their parents make decisions, spend money, negotiate, travel, invest, build businesses and interact with the world.
So when they eventually start businesses, they may naturally start from a mental model that is miles ahead of yours.
Meanwhile, if you grew up in a rough neighbourhood with parents who were constantly struggling, you may have to deliberately rewrite your mental model.
Because your mind is like a memory card.
It stores experiences, assumptions and beliefs about what is βnormal.β
If everything youβve ever seen is scarcity, you can unconsciously build a life around scarcity.
You may avoid opportunities that feel βtoo big.β
You may think certain lifestyles are unrealistic.
You may undercharge.
You may be afraid to spend money even when spending it would create more money.
You may see a β¦10M opportunity and immediately think, βWhere would I ever get that kind of money?β
This is because your internal reference point was built around a completely different reality.
So expose yourself to a new one.
Read books. Travel. Spend time around people operating at a higher level. Watch luxury and business content. Visit places youβve never been. Study how wealthy people live, think and make decisions.
No, watching luxury vlogs will not magically make you rich - but you cannot pursue a reality you cannot mentally picture.
If you have never seen something, your brain has no concrete reference for it.
And this is why exposure is so powerful.
Travel, books, conversations, documentaries, luxury vlogs and simply being around people who live differently can expand your idea of what is possible.
You are essentially giving your brain new files, new reference points and new definitions of βnormal.β
The goal is to stop allowing the environment you were born into to become the ceiling of what you believe is possible.
Sometimes before you can build a new reality, you have to see one first.
As someone who was from a part of the world that had a stigma yet selling to the U.S. market, I thought the fact that I looked and sounded different meant Iβd not close.
But over 3 years and almost $4m+ in deals closed? I found this applicable beyond the immediate context.
