@sdamico Very hard to understand how using reduced-grade carbon could possibly be of any concern. Who knew that hull strength was critical? Terrible. It's not that it wasn't tested - it's that it WAS tested and it failed certification to the target depth (3000m not 4000m).

@MLWC3 @Pogue @OceanGateExped Apparently not!?! An EPIRB is basic equipment for any boat, private airplane, etc.. Some hikers carry pocket versions. They are nowadays inexpensive and small. I can't imagine not having one or several EPIRBs on board, but maybe not.

@Pogue @OceanGateExped I am appalled that they don't have underwater navigation and better underwater communications. Of course GPS won't work underwater (the water attenuates high freq RF), but there are many other methods to do deep underwater location that works well at depths 5km+

In sailing, the skill of managing the levers in response to the changing winds is what Sailing 101 is all about. Banking is similar.
