NIST recently posted a draft describing their approach to transitioning from RSA/ECC to post-quantum (PQ) secure signatures and key-agreement primitives. (https://t.co/fxuVz4G1xq)
They propose to completely move away from all RSA/elliptic curve crypto by 2035!
On the positive side, they offer guidelines for PQ-secure signatures and key agreement protocols. Many teams are already working towards developing these protocols and new alternatives.
However, beyond signature and key-agreement, the story is completely different!
Many solutions getting built for blockchain applications and beyond extensively employ RSA, ECC, and pairing. And, their future is unclear!
