Activist: "Farmers are millionaires sitting on land worth a fortune. They can afford the inheritance tax."
Farmer: "How much did I earn last year?"
Activist: "I don't know. A lot, surely."
Farmer: "Twenty-two thousand. Before the tractor broke."
Activist: "But the land's worth millions."
Farmer: "On paper. I can't eat the field or spend it. The only way to turn it into money is to sell it, and then I'm not a farmer, I'm a bloke who used to have a farm."
Activist: "So sell a corner of it."
Farmer: "A corner doesn't work as a farm. You can't run a suckler herd on the bit that's left after the taxman's had his slice. You sell one field, then the next bill comes, then another field. It ends one way."
Activist: "The land only costs that much because you won't sell it."
Farmer: "It costs that much because a hedge fund three counties over wants it for carbon credits and a footballer wants it for the view. Neither of them has ever calved a cow at three in the morning. They set the price. I get the bill."
Activist: "It's still an asset."
Farmer: "It's a workplace that happens to be expensive. You've decided the value of the shop is the same as the wage of the shopkeeper. Come back in February and watch me not be a millionaire in the rain."
@Tenitrus@SnoCoPW I guarantee you they know how to properly fold a flag. I've done a flag retirement ceremony many times through scouts and we burned a folded flag once. It took FOREVER to burn, and it significantly delayed our ability to retire more safely. Synthetic flags burn very hot.
A USDA inspector showed up at our beef jerky processor for regular inspection and saw Nourish Food Club on the production schedule.
According to the processor, the inspector said: “I’ve had issues with Ashley before, so I’m going to find problems.”
Our beef was already processed at a USDA facility. We had the required paperwork. Yet the processor was told to put “NOT FOR SALE” on the entire batch.
• We paid our small regenerative farm partners (who spent 2 years raising the cow)
• We paid the USDA processor
• We paid the USDA jerky maker
Now the jerky can’t be sold, and we eat the loss.
This is the kind of regulatory abuse that pushes small food producers out of business.
Told the Daniels girls to always keep a spare tire in the trunk. Seems the trustees got the same lesson.
Will try to keep Purdue on its current roll, thanks to the board for the opportunity.

@Deadswan65@RepThomasMassie I'm guessing @Jim_Jordan is in that camp. I remember it saying that Jim attended Thomas's wedding even. He's my congressman and I'm incredibly disappointed he hasn't done the same as @WarrenDavidson.
I unfortunately have to admit something.
I voted for a high school kid to run this country in 2024.
Thomas Massie votes against a bill? "Worst Republican in history." "Disloyal." "Sanctimonious fool." "May we never have to deal with him again."
Lauren Boebert campaigns for the wrong person? "Weak minded." "Dumb." "Carpetbagger." "Deserves a good primary fight."
This is the President of the United States.
Publicly trashing members of his own party because they didn't fall in line.
Not debating their positions. Not explaining why they're wrong. Not making a case.
Name calling.
On social media.
Like a teenager who got left out of the group chat.
"He's disloyal." "She's weak minded." "Vote them out."
That's not leadership. That's a popularity contest at a lunch table.
You disagree with the boss and instead of a conversation you get publicly humiliated and threatened with a primary challenger.
That's not how a president handles disagreement.
That's how a bully handles it.
Massie voted no on something he believed was wrong. That's literally his job. That's what Americans elected him to do. Think for himself and represent his district.
But in this version of the Republican Party, thinking for yourself gets you a public hit piece from the leader of the free world.
And the base cheers for it.
When did "loyalty to one man" replace "loyalty to the Constitution"?
I voted for a president.
I got a hall monitor with a Truth Social account.
The bar is laughably low for US public schools
I live in a wealthy, 10/10 grade district, & yet still:
- Kids can retake tests unlimited times until they get an 85+. Why study?
- We worship at the altar of must-stay-high home values
- $48k/year teachers are broke & quitting left & right. Of course they are!
- There are more iPads, Chromebooks and GoPros than there are kids, but teachers are still broke and the schools are begging for money
- It costs parents $900 for kids to take the bus in the afternoon only, but this doesn't make a dent in the budget
- Classes are overcrowded. 1 of 3 of our elementary schools recently closed down due to funding
- Schools are largely funded by property taxes, which are $10k - $40k/year(!!) in this area, but the schools are still broke!
- Football & other sports are doing more than great with regards to funding. We rival many colleges in production value and amenities. Why?
- We've known for decades that kids are getting fatter every year and that highly processed foods are one culprit, but we still feed kids garbage en masse. This was yesterday's lunch:
What do you think home values would be if we dropped to a 6/10 grade? Incentives are aligned to ensure that can't happen.
I know other states like Florida manage school districts differently. Here in TX the same house next door could be worth 30% more if in a better district.
Why can't we rely on iPads and football less and pay teachers more? The household income here is over 3x the teachers' salaries! But they don't see any of it.
Why can't kids go outside more and feed our kids real food? Obesity is more expensive than healthy food.
The teachers, parents and administrators here are good, talented and loving people, but working within and against a broken system.
The US does better than many other countries, but we can do so much better. How? I'm genuinely asking.
We've never homeschooled, but it's looking more and more tempting every year...
There is a lot of unfair broadbrushed hatred towards boomers.
The root of the problem you can derive if you read this post.
Land values have 15x’d since 86’ so if you were an operator then and had the guts and resourcefulness to make it through… you’re sitting pretty.
Boomers that survived were the winners of this big Ponzi scheme we call the money printer / credit system that completely unlatched from gold in 71’
Why we argue is because some of think that if that next generation just does what they did then they would be as successful as them.
That’s just my 10,000 ft “low iq” opinion.
You would probably defend status quo if it was as nice to you.
The other aspect is that generation was onslaughted with technology … and the 3 tv channel marketing that goes with it. Tribes were more local… so you had to kind of choose your people and work with what you had. There is a lot more trust with the TV with this group in general than the younger crowd… but also the “group think” of the people they generally hang with keeps them from leaving because they would then be shadowed as an outcast.
I look at everyone as an individual. It’s just hard to communicate with some because of these intrinsic qualities earned through a world a little different than it is today.
About 7 years ago @MSNBC stopped by our farm. After a long interview of me explaining my libertarian/agnostic/ultra conservative view of agriculture and politics they took 1 quote from the interview asking about my view of trumps 2019 MFP payments
“Any monkey can write a check”
Our farm operation has been one of the most conservative minded in the area. We’ve squeezed the nickel so hard we grew 🌽 off its 💩, I’ve farmed with old, paid for equipment most of my life. Debt just wasn’t ever an option so we just did without.
The local community… (farmer round table) called me a “liberal”… apparently since Libertarianism sounds like… liberal IDK, and anybody that doesn’t 🦜 @FoxNews is that…
7 years later a golden tractor is in the White House lawn next to the new Ball Room. @NutrienAgRetail just reported record profits and farms are struggling like the early - mid 80’s
Check out https://t.co/5xg5rbu7z1 if you want to see what narcissism looks like.
We don’t need another check or a loan. We need real conservative solutions.
Slash all subsidies. Let the market figure this shit out…. But we’re so deeply fucked up that it would be pretty painful for a time until things balanced out.
You can’t just keep buying votes. We don’t need more 🌽. We need 🥩 processing in every county
We need the mathematics of independently owned 🐖
We need Agriculture to work again like it did before politicians let the corporations pad their pockets at the expense of the family farm.
There is a portion of farmers that hate these type of posts.
You shouldn’t be crying about it. You should look at it as the biggest opportunity of your life.
I travel a lot… and I try to get off the beaten path and get “lost” in the country.
IA is no different than IL or IN
I was in IA at @CalebAkin2 and saw a lemon and orange tree growing on a -25 morning
The technology, soil, people are here… but the system doesn’t allow it because the distribution of regional food has been blown up.
30 miles South of downtown Chicago
South of 10 million people
Flat black… 🌽 and 🫘
A complete waste of opportunity
