@miroslavtok@Lord4NM You'd think. But that's a tough line. Those who do/did not vote for him are also having to live with the results. And of course it goes way deeper than just city govt.
@alakhes2 @nephsons1@justinamash That's way above the % in poverty. So for many (not all), not having saved money for emergencies is a lifestyle choice. Lack of financial education and inability to defer gratification contribute to the problem.
Agree 100% about irresponsible spending of tax dollars!
@AngryMomUSA And don't forget grocery store closures with untold food waste resulting, invoking "crisis care" to scare and punish citizens, refusal to ask the feds for hospital help, refusal to provide data and resources on therapeutics that became available in Nov. I'm sure there's more.
@Rob_AirOne @Actioncraft1@GoCardinaIs@DonaldJTrumpJr What a bunch of propaganda. OWS put in place the largest and most rapid vaccination campaign of all time & Joe's simply riding the coattails of it, trying to take credit. Not a Trump supporter myself, but seriously, credit where credit is due to the awesome OWS folks.
Does anyone know what happened to the idea (that so many experts were very definite about) that you would spread Covid even if vaccinated and should therefore continue to wear a mask? What caused the turnabout? Was there a study or something? Sincere question.
@DanCrenshawTX Sen. Warren is purposely misleading by calculating taxes paid against "wealth" instead of income. How about instead we work harder to teach basic economics and empower people to build wealth in their own lives through savings, education, home ownership, etc.
@jamesnorrie80 @mikesnudejs1 @QueenCity44@Jon_Know_H@DanCrenshawTX People would have to sell their homes, liquidate businesses, etc. to pay a "wealth" tax. And these assets were purchased with money that was already taxed as income! But who could buy them since anyone with assets would be in the same boat? It's absurd.
@mikesnudejs1 @QueenCity44@Jon_Know_H@DanCrenshawTX Tax is paid on income, not wealth. Any "wealth" a person has - money in the bank, stocks, a business, a home they bought - came from income, which was already taxed. Taxing "wealth" would be double taxation.
@DavidDPaxton@Jon_Know_H@DanCrenshawTX Indeed, and then to take a percent of it. Very misleading. How is that even calculated? Does govt have an inventory of what each of us owns? They're trying to normalize the idea of tax based on wealth instead of income.
@MadelineKaz The unvax must be protected from themselves. Or something...
Only sense I can make is that a confused populace is more easily manipulated. But that ship has already sailed, so hard to know. Could be just old fashioned ineptness.
@pedestrian_wolf@apollocelestio@mattyglesias That's a pipe dream. Current Medicare does not cover dental, vision, or LTC. There are premiums, copays, coinsurance, and deductibles. Some Medicare Advantage plans offer dental & vision at extra cost. It's not zero cost by any stretch.
@TXsnark7@MattMackowiak How exactly did Biden help stop the spread of Covid? Vaccines are the reason Covid has slowed (and prob some immunity from infection). Biden did nothing but ride the coattails of Operation Warp Speed. Not a fan of Trump either but credit is due to the hardworking OWS folks.
@sj_here @90sKid1986 @VincentRK Pfizer took no US govt funding up front, but they had guaranteed sales and no liability. That's huge. But profit motive is partly what drove the rush to the finish line, so can see both sides of this coin. Govt needs to negotiate pricing now that were past "crisis" mode.
