Our new paper is now available in Soil Biology and Biochemistry: "Chemodiversity controls microbial assimilation of soil organic carbon: a theoretical model". Big thank you to @jpschimel and @mixotrophe for their contributions to this paper. Summary below: https://t.co/WaJ060KQVW
spent my lunch break today coming up with ways that the Kate Middleton story would turn out if it were being investigated by various fictional detectives
If you're an undergrad at UCSB or know an undergrad at UCSB who might be interested in this program please share :) It's aimed at increasing diversity in SCUBA diving and getting awesome students involved in marine research! @EEMB_DEIW@eembucsb@gsac_ucsb@BrenUCSB

We also show in simulations that the emergent behavior is similar regardless of the microbial resource strategy used in the model (diauxie, co-utilization, or specialization). Chemodiversity suppresses assimilation, with a greater relative effect when overall resources are scarce
Looking forward to attending the @ESA meeting for the first time this year! I'll be presenting recent modeling work with @mixotrophe and @jpschimel investigating the effects of organic chemodiversity on microbial use of soil organic carbon. My talk will be Tues, 8/8 at 8:45 AM.
After six weeks on strike, we have voted to accept a contract. We write as union organizers from Santa Cruz, where workers on our campus voted No by a massive margin. Here is our perspective on ratification. 🧵

I've hesitated to share my story because I don't want it to affect my future career, but I would be negligent if I didn't try to help my fellow union members understand why a "YES" vote is so important. (1/n)
Some members from our UAW bargaining team recently published a FAQ on why you should vote no on the contract. To say nothing of making the University of California’s case for them, the interest of this FAQ is more to push an agenda than to have a debate 1/2
