Fantastic article on land value tax and tax system fundementals in the context of the looming automation and AI revolution.
Highly recommended read for anyone less than very familiar with LVT to provide a decent foundational understanding.

@Spudlink1@VladTheInflator Reducing lending for structures results in less structures. Only need to stop lending for the land portion of property; we don't produce it so its supply is unchanged. One way to do that is make simply owning land (as opposed to using it) unprofitable by taxing its rental value.
@senatorbabet Most taxes are theft, land value tax is not most taxes. Land value is socially created by the local community, not the parcels owner. Using LVT for the common good returns value to its creators.
@BrotherJim3@SamaHoole LDL is not bad, LDL damaged through glycation, due to high blood glucose, and then oxidation is bad. Go read/watch some content from Dr Paul Mason.
This thinking should also be applied to the difference in deadweight loss between the taxes politicians currently impose and the most efficient tax policies.
The Rapacity Ratio
Replacing a catalytic convertor will likely cost $1,000.
The thief who stole the old one probably sold it for less than $100.
I propose this as a measure of a man's wickedness: How much expense will he inflict on others, to gain $1 for himself?
Let's call that ratio his rapacity.
Catalytic convertor thieves have a rapacity of roughly 10. For copper thieves, it's closer to 20.
A good man's rapacity is negative. For example, a good man might pay $5 to avoid inflicting $1 in damage to others. His rapacity is -5.
The grand champions of rapacity are politicians, who will transfer $1 Billion of taxpayer money to an NGO, in return for $1M to their Caiman bank account. That gives them a rapacity of 1,000.
@trashbaby40k@Kattnipp04@cafreiman Which is why econ 101 should give more focus on things which are non-reproducible on human time scales, such as land and mineral resources, as well as IP and other government granted monopolies. How often is a vertical supply curve shown, even though it underlies all activity?
@RoninD0je87 @curious10665@VladTheInflator@grok Shift as much tax burden from productive activities (work, investment, sales, houses, etc) and place it on the locational value of real estate. Land has a fixed supply, so the tax incidence falls on the owner, lowering its price, and does not decrease its qty or quality. #lvt
