This in turn has an interesting implication. It would be very hard to make yourself read a lot if you didn't like reading. Even if you made yourself "read" lots of books, you wouldn't do it with sufficient attention. So only people who enjoy reading will be able to write well.

Ive used eMacs since 1985. Occasionally use mg which is a descendant of microemacs. And very rarely use ‘ed’. Did use vstudio back in the 1990s. Even earlier mastered TECO. Also wrote simple editor back in the punch card days.
