@mattdellok Let’s charge a vacancy tax on empty units in any apartment building with more than 12 units that sit empty over 60 days. This will reduce monthly rental fees in the top tier “market rate” units - making them more affordable and trickle down. Lots of costly empty units out there.
@tamarataggart@GoldinYVR Common practice for BC housing. Need to remember not for profit means they make profit to buy and build new buildings - they are developers with tax breaks not about affordable housing.
@tamarataggart Thank you! I too have been experiencing the decline in the system caring for my aging father. Admin constantly heard quoting everything is fine. Short staffing means dad goes to bed in yesterday’s clothes, doesn’t get breakfast on shower day to save care aids time…I can go on…
@mattdellok We have an affordable housing criss while non profit housing providers funded with government capital sitting on empty units because they are too expensive and cannot find renters at market price. Where is the vacancy tax for these empty units? Real solutions!
@KahlonRav We need vacancy tax or penalty for housing providers especially those who receive govt funding for holding empty units. There are lots of empty units - they are just at market rate, as these units are expected to cover the subsidized units shortfall. The model is broke!
@ChrisFofonoff@timescolonist Just fyi…Liaison program funded by municipality not district so no $ will flow to students with the cancellation. Victoria /Esquimalt already pulled the funding a few years ago / this will see Saanich schools in Sd 61 lose their officers.
@edwardp@GraceALore@Carriejustsayin I shouldn’t have to tell. When you are directly related to people making decisions on a project as a politician you should not advocate for the project as you are in a conflict of interest. Innocent or politically charged….best stay out of discussion if family affected.
@GraceALore@Carriejustsayin Grace on this topic I feel you have a family conflict of interest and you should not be speaking or advocating publicly due to this. Politicians have an ethical duty to be very careful in this area. You should declare your conflict prior to speaking or not at all.
@mattdellok@myDVBA I walk to downtown daily, council needs to take a walk too. The streets are lined with feces, vacated business doorways are used for shelter and drug use. Guess we keep any tourists in search of the garden city to government st only?
@CarRelianceBC @mattdellok@RStraatsma@DaveThompsonVIC @SusanKimYYJ @MarianneAlto@sd61schools @GagnonForSD61 Lol…no failure here. No the district does not have $ for a new build. Funding for new builds and land comes from the provincial government after a great deal of asking and waiting in line. Be respectful and get your facts in order.
@mattdellok@RStraatsma@DaveThompsonVIC @SusanKimYYJ @MarianneAlto@sd61schools @GagnonForSD61 SD61 had advised Victoria council for years that the downtown core needs a new school. No increase in development fees, no discussion on catchment pressures or potential new sites, but councillors quick to say Sd 61 problem and scoop land for housing.
@TracyCareQ Parents are 1st teacher, good relationship with parents means student’s will have respect for teacher in classroom and parents will have respect at home as partners in learning. Students with engaged parents have less behaviour issues and excel in class cause they work w/ teacher
@diana_murphy613 @ChezGreenMD What you fail to acknowledge is this is about equitable regulated quality child care. It is about ensuring kids are learning through play not watching tv. This reduces costs later as kids do better and avoid negative outcomes. Doesn’t matter what parents can pay-quality learning
@mattdellok I would like to see you take those plows for bike lanes and do all the crosswalks too, allowing scooters and walkers access to the other side rather than me pushing and shoveling to help!
@Monika_Dutt@TracyCareQ@HWDSB Suspensions do not support students - they support admin getting a break AND alarmingly popular in December resulting in weeks of lost learning for students…usually for the students who cannot afford the loss and often leads to dropping out. Grr
