Welcome to the Whitfield Lab Twitter page. I am Chair and Professor of Biomedical Data Science. Updates on happenings, papers, grants and research advances.
Diffuse cutaneous #systemic#sclerosis is a rheumatic disease in which the earliest events involving skin fibrosis remain poorly understood.
Here, Michael L. Whitfield @Whitfieldlab & team @GeiselMed analyze untreated #SSc skin from early disease patients using multimodal omic approaches, identifying a proinflammatory vascular niche characterized by macrophage-fibroblast signaling: https://t.co/CYP8uEJuVr

Excited to share our new @JCIInsight study! Using single nuclear multi-omic & spatial profiling, we found a profibrotic vascular niche in early, untreated #SSc skin biopsies—enriched with profibrotic macrophages & fibroblasts. Targeting this axis may offer new therapies.
Read our most recent paper on single cell analyses of SSc self-assembled skin equivalent tissues (saSE), now available as a pre-print at https://t.co/xqXdMWTXBQ
Excited to lead a new Center for AI Research & Education (CAIRE) with Dr. Tiffani Bright at @CedarsSinaiMed. We will focus on automated machine learning, AI fairness & bias, knowledge engineering, explainability, AI education, & clinical collaboration. https://t.co/RE22wYpqXF
By analyzing genetic data from about 3500 cultivated and wild grape varieties from around the world, researchers in Science have found new insights into how, when, and where wine and table grapevines were domesticated. https://t.co/mGRLid5V86
Read our newest paper on precision medicine in systemic sclerosis with @sclerodermaUM where we show we can predict patients most likely to improve on abatacept. https://t.co/Pz87CCUpb3
Today would've been the 69th birthday of Sharon Monsky, the SRF's Founder. She knew that funding medical research was the best way to give hope to those living with #scleroderma.
Sharon, you inspire us daily and you're forever in our hearts. 💙
Dr. Forger's talk will focus on #circadian phase and how its prediction and measurement using wearable data such as activity and heart rate, may be used to address health issues such as cancer fatigue and jet lag and to predict mood and #mentalhealth
Delighted to announce that @UNHCIBBR and @DartCQB have received a second year of funding to coordinate SARS-CoV-2 genomic surveillance in NH and VT, including wastewater surveillance. Thanks to @NIGMS for their continued support

@BioMedDataSci and @DartCQB welcome Drs. Li Song @mourisl and Kenneth Hoehn @hoehnousk to @GeiselMed! Dr. Song's appointment begins Nov. '22, and Dr. Hoehn's in Aug. '23. Excited to bring their research in computational immunology and single cell ‘omics to Dartmouth!
Dr. Robert Frost joins our list of successful graduates!
Project PI H. Robert Frost graduated from the CQB COBRE in September of 2022 after receiving an R35 MIRA award.

I'm thrilled to announce that I will be joining the Department of Biomedical Data Science @GeiselMed as an assistant professor next month! I will work on algorithms to investigate immune receptors with sequencing data, and develop highly efficient methods for sequence analysis.
Incredible news—last night we raised more than $1.2 MILLION for #scleroderma research at #CoolComedyHotCuisine, a Tribute to #BobSaget. 🙌
Thank you to all of our donors & to our hosts—@JimmyKimmel, @JohnMayer, and @TheRealJeffreyRoss—and EVERYONE involved.
I'm excited that together with @UNHCIBBR and @DartCQB, we've received a second year of funding to continue SARS-CoV-2 surveillance in NH and VT. Thanks to @NIGMS @NIGMSTraining for funding.
We're very excited to announce a new NIH-funded project in @DartCQB, @BioMedDataSci, and DHMC Department of Pathology, to track COVID19 variants in our region/ https://t.co/aa2y3bvjAN

Very excited for the publication of our self-assembled skin equivalent skin-like tissue model for systemic sclerosis (SSc). Thanks to @NIH_NIAMS, @srfcure and
@scleroderma for support of the project. Read the paper here: https://t.co/6Vy9zb7JBT
