How many DM school bhubaneswar alumni here, do share to increase awareness: DM SCHOOL: WHY REPLACE A 62-YEAR EDUCATIONAL EXPERIMENT THAT WAS BUILT TO LEAD?

Bhubaneswar’s Demonstration Multipurpose School (DM School) is facing a proposed transfer/merger with the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), triggering opposition from students, parents and alumni. The proposal concerns four PM SHRI Demonstration Multipurpose Schools across India, including Bhubaneswar. An NCERT order dated August 7, 2026 constituted a committee to work out the modalities for handing over the four schools to KVS.

But there is an important question for Odisha:

Why should an institution created specifically to experiment, demonstrate and improve school education simply become another school in a larger system?

DM School is not an ordinary school

Established in 1964, DM School Bhubaneswar is officially described by RIE Bhubaneswar as the first CBSE-affiliated school in Odisha and a premier institution in the Eastern Region. It is an integral part of the Regional Institute of Education, Bhubaneswar.

Kendriya Vidyalayas have their own important role.
DM School has a different one.

Instead of asking “Which school is better?”, perhaps the bigger question is:

“Why merge two different educational models when Odisha can preserve both—and make DM School even stronger?”

DM School has been part of Bhubaneswar's educational history since 1964.

A school created to experiment with the future of education should not become a casualty of administrative restructuring.

Save the identity. Strengthen the institution. Let DM School continue to demonstrate what India's schools can become.

@sofiafirdous1 Many questions asked and many clarifications made. Of course Odisha is doing a very good work in managing disasters, but the so called 5T model is overarching other institutions diminishing their position in the governance system.

My worry is for the future leaders of Odisha.
