Hear me out. Instead of holding these over students’ heads as rewards, incorporate them into lessons anyway. Kids will be more likely to want to join lessons and we won’t need to bribe them to get them there. You don’t need to reward people to do something purposeful & enjoyable.
I was there, and I always cite this as the biggest moment in my career. To watch my mother watch John Lewis win. I remember finding @NicolaYoon afterward and joking about how none of us could be mad about losing to him. I’ll never forget it.
Welp, it seems a lot of adults think that kids should be reading all the books that THEY loved as kids. But when you make book lists and recommendations FOR kids, you can't let nostalgia and personal preference guide you. When you leave the kids out of the equation, they suffer.
