The risk-reward tradeoff of deploying into Firelight
a π§΅
At a high level, DeFi yeild can be broken into 2 parts. The risk of the strategy(priced by Firelight) and the natural/incentivized return of the asset being deployed.
Today, @Firelightfi is finally live and the journey to solve cover/insurance in DeFi at scale officially starts: https://t.co/MhQdM3RnEB
I worked on this project alongside an amazing team and incredible partners for over a year. Here is an essay of the vision and roadmap : https://t.co/0wLkPxJcY0
Incubated by @SentoraHQ, Firelight starts from a simple observation: DeFi has made capital programmable. Its protection should be programmable too. Protection should be a key primitive of DeFi just as lending and market making.
A better ship reduces the chance of sinking. Insurance determines whether one lost shipment also destroys the merchantβs business. DeFi needs both better engineering and credible mechanisms for transferring defined losses.
In my essay, I explain our vision for programmable insurance: cover that vaults, protocols, exchanges, and fintechs can embed directly into their products, with explicit terms, risk-informed pricing, and independent claims assessment.
At launch, that includes Sentoraβs USD Protected Vault and Protected RWA Vaults. Our partnership with @veda_labs extends this ambition toward the vault infrastructure layer.
The Risk Consortium brings together @HypernativeLabs, @nativeinsurance, @CredoraNetwork, @Cyfrin, and @labsGFX to independently assess covered events and losses.
Backed by an $8M seed round, our roadmap includes broader capital participation, deeper risk intelligence, and increasingly granular protection.
The goal is to help more capital participate in DeFi with risks that institutions can understand, budget for, and selectively transfer.
We have spent years measuring total value locked. Itβs time to pay attention to total value covered.
My essay explores what weβre building and why it matters.
Firelight Protocol is now live, with initial cover extended to @SentoraHQ's USD Protected Vault and Protected RWA Vaults.
DeFi now has its missing player: a protection layer for onchain capital.
Isolated markets and active monitoring might have have made DeFi failures smaller, but more chains and dependencies have made them more frequent.
Major failures are no longer black swan events.
Firelight, a protection layer for digital assets, goes live on Oct 6.
Ten vaults on one oracle, one collateral asset, and one liquidation venue are one exposure, not ten.
We assess concentration across protocols, assets, and shared dependencies because the question isn't how much risk to cover. It's which combinations our capital can survive. π
In 7 days, Firelight brings a verifiable protection layer to DeFi: transparent terms for defined protocol failures, with capital you can verify on-chain.
Early protocol emissions will follow shortly after launch.
