The conservation of the critically endangered Great Indian Bustard is entering a new phase, with at least 2 captive-bred chicks set for a pilot release inside enclosures at Rajasthan’s Desert National Park in Jaisalmer.

The release will mark the start of the ‘rewilding’ phase of Project GIB, which has been underway since 2013.

The carcass of a 14–15-year-old tiger was found today near a pond in the Katangi range of South Balaghat Territorial Division.
The animal was old, its stomach empty. The left canine was broken and the right one worn. Prima facie, this appears to be an old-age death after a prolonged period of starvation.
Identification is in progress whether it belonged to Pench, Katangi, or Sonewani Conservation Reserve. Stripe matching is being done with Kanha and Pench records. Given the proximity to Seoni, movement from Pench looks more likely.
