The first conviction based on DNA evidence was secured #OnThisDay 35 years ago. Colin Pitchfork was convicted of rape and murder at Leicester Crown Court. DNA evidence had previously exonerated Richard Buckland for the same offence.

Travel back 108 years to the May of 1915. Auguste Léon photographed the students at a girls' school in Nancy, France. I've enhanced 4 of his autochromes: the girls Rose Chapuy, Mlle Paquin & Germaine Maugny, & their teacher Miss Grünfelder. They're original colour, not colourised
