An all-time excellent book quote from Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers...
"Anyone who clings to the historically untrue and thoroughly immoral doctrine that violence never settles anything I would advise to conjure up the ghosts of Napoleon Bonaparte and the Duke of Wellington and let them debate it. The ghost of Hitler could referee and the jury might well be the Dodo, the Great Auk, and the Passenger Pigeon.
Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Breeds that forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and their freedoms."
Not debating whether he needs a knife or not. I personally believe everyone should have the right to protect themselves with whatever is appropriate, especially if law enforcement has failed to uphold good order. The issue here is that the officer completely failed no matter how you look at things.
@IntCyberDigest If only the OSINT nerds could dig into this... maybe they could find some correlation from the reflected lighting.... Nah, too difficult.
@SenDuckworth So... you're saying that civilians who never ranked as high as General Officers shouldn't be questioning the decisions of said General Officers?
hmmm.... what were you doing on 14 May?
There's an exemption for military enforcement under the Posse Comitatus Act, "except in such cases and under such circumstances as such employment of said force may be expressly authorized by the Constitution or by act of Congress;"
So while there is a reason to separate military and police on a daily basis, under exigent circumstances you can use the military to enforce the law. If the US was ever invaded, you would also expect to see law enforcement fighting back as well.
When the press is lying or playing partisan favorites, then it is everyone's responsibility to call it out.
As the Supreme Court stated in U.S. vs. Alvarez, "The remedy for speech that is false is speech that is true. . . . The theory of the Constitution is 'that the best test of truth is the power of the thought to get itself accepted in the competition of the market.' The First Amendment itself ensures the right to respond to speech we do not like, and for good reason."
@TheBuddyCSM Assume that there was a power outage which affected the clocks in the house. Jump out of bed thinking I'm probably 2 hours late, since why would anyone ever wake up before their alarm.
@vxunderground Miyamoto Musashi and his rival Sasaki Kojirล. One born with great innate skill, the other persevering through trial after trial. Perseverance won in the end.
