@mir_btc@giacomozucco My wife still asks me "How are the Posh and Becks* of Bitcoin?" (she can't remember your names and thinks you are a cure couple).
* I hasten to add she intends it as a compliment.
@Mandrik The 1999 eclipse I was on top of a cliff overlooking the sea (Cornwall UK) and when the moon passed all the birds flew back from the sea at once, squawking like mad and roosted on the cliffs and then took off again when the sun came back out. It was amazing because of the birds.
@btc_banksy@lopp I think it's also nod to the fact that spinning up a node that doesn't validate incoming txs isn't contributing to enforcing consensus rules as - 'if you aren't validating that your incoming BTC adheres to the rules you select (through the node you run) you aren't doing much' etc
@btc_banksy@lopp I think it only comes into play if there's a fork and a battle of nerves and conviction. Having more Bitcoin means someone less convicted can offset a lot of very convicted people. As you can't measure conviction but you can measure amounts it doesn't mean much in calmer times.
@btc_banksy@lopp In fact one of the things about "hyperbitcoinization" that I am not keen on is trying to get too many people into Bitcoin before they understand what gives it the properties it has and apathy and "because Big Company A says so we little folk have to go along" becomes a risk.
@btc_banksy@lopp And I know "economic weight of nodes count" etc - it's just after 80%+ businesses and miners signalling trying to blocking Segwit softfork activating (and it later activating) then failing to push a 2x block a few years ago I think we're still safe from centralised 'pushes'.

@nwoodfine I guess the problem is we are trying to use reason and fair rules of engagement and on the other side... is the BBC. To look positively at this; they put up logical reasoning tests that work to filter the flow of new people into Bitcoin. All good.
Of course every school child knows that once used water is gone forever. The water cycle is a lie. When you brush your teeth that water is gone forever. This is GOOD news though as it off-sets the claims Bitcoin mining is raising sea levels leaving a net zero change to sea levels
This bullshit by Alex de Vries of the Dutch Central Bank has been debunked many times. Now it’s getting recycled to celebrate the start of COP28.

@itsashikhere @BBCScienceNews It's not my article - it's the first I found on Google - if you are getting all your Bitcoin mining info from the BBC you are getting a very biased and ill-informed view. There's plenty of info out there if you are genuinely concerned. Have a read an alleviate yours fears.
@itsashikhere @BBCScienceNews You have it all wrong - the BBC have previously said the Bitcoin miner contribute to rising sea levels and now this article says they are using up loads of water - terrific, one balances the other out for net zero sea level change. Wins all round!
@itsashikhere @BBCScienceNews An energy consuming Google search will set your on your way, but I used my energy here to help you start so you can feel better about it: https://t.co/HaF8qUu09F
@itsashikhere @BBCScienceNews The article is not about energy use or pollution. "What about" the electricity you used posting your reply? If people value the use of energy it gets used for it. Bitcoin mining uses a higher % renewable or stranded energy than other industries. So "why don’t you learn first"
