No Labels wants you to believe these two men are the same. They are not. They've never been. One candidate is a defender of democracy, the other just wants to burn it all to the ground. You can't argue with facts, although we know MAGA Republicans will. #NoLabelsElectsTrump
An amendment from @SenSanders that would condition aid to Israel (other than missile defense) on a halt to settlement expansion. It is unlikely to pass (or even get a vote) but it is important. The time is long past for statements of concern. It is time for action.
💥Israeli DefMin Yoav Gallant removed all mention of democratic values and West Bank settler violence from his version of the readout with US counterpart Lloyd Austin-- which I'm sure will just tickle the Secretary of Defense.
Exactly a week after Haaretz first revealed the "Israeli Treasures of Mar-a-Lago", former President Trump has returned the archaeological artifacts to Israel.

"There’s nothing hidden there," @YairWallach told me. "The settlers are the most committed, and have the most radical vision, and they know what they want." https://t.co/QX7d4PZYqI
NEW: @mattduss breaks down the nostalgia act that was Herzog's US visit. Buji played the hits—"Israel is a miracle. America has no better friend. Shared values. Palestinians are terrorists"—even as the promise of democracy slipped away in Israel/Palestine

The Knesset approved expanding a law that would allow more communities to screen applicants and reject those they deem unsuitable. Critics say "racist intentions" are behind it

“Annexation is already happening and when it’s done, Israel won’t be a country with democratic infrastructure tainted by occupation; it will be a non-democratic state with relics of democracy, fit for a museum,” @dahliasc.

The brutality seen here is a visceral,
unmistakable demonstration of how the occupation — its tactics, lack of accountability and inherent hostility to human dignity — has come home to roost as an existential threat to Israel’s democracy and future.
Backers of judicial “reform” have been clear about their motivations/intent. That pundits/media persist in not taking them at their word and/or accusing people who do so of hysteria or bad faith is consistent with decades of malpractice that paved the way to where we are today.
White House statement, shorter: there is nothing Israel has done now or can ever do that will ever elicit any consequence under this administration other than reassurances of unconditional support and empty words of concern.
I wish Israel's protesters had succeeded. But I hope they'll take this lesson from their defeat: In the long run, you don't beat ethnonationalism with more a polite brand of ethnonationalism. You beat it with equality under the law-- for everyone
The most nationalist and racist government in Israel’s history has passed the first key law as part of their judicial overhaul. No doubt Israel has reached a frightening moment. As a society we ignored all the signs along the way, even when they burned villages before our eyes 🧵
They loaded their belongings on two trucks and two tractors, and left the place they’d lived for decades. A brutal history, repeating itself

This map shows with compelling clarity how the actual existential threat to Israel emanating from the West Bank is the antidemocratic settlement movement that seeks expansion and annexation at any price.
The occupation is poisoning Israel’s democracy and jeopardizing its future.
