Screen Mirroring : makes the AVP better than Beer Goggles
As an AppleChild growing up with their tech in the early 80s, I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing all their juicy products from the seeds up.
Few favorites (pre phone) were the IIci, the first flat panel studio Display and of course the ultimate app : MacPlaymate, the finest Black and White low pixel experience in the compuworld. Then the phone and now The Apple VisionPro.
You’ve already read about the epic fanciness of the AVP. The tech, the power, the build and of course the price. Apple has been notorious with this playbook since the original Mac, and if you’re like me and have given many jet skis and college tuition in the Apple enclosed secret garden, you’ll find your VisonPro yet another Mac ID controlled device in your Apple Garage.
I found the device to operate exactly like the iOS you’re familiar with the last 200+ versions. Message and Safari and FaceTime and Music and Spotlight and Control Panel are all bolstered with a Double M2 processor with a micro-quintillion eye-tracking display. And yes, it will still lock you out for 30 seconds after your first failed passcode attempts… but this time in 8K!
But there is one more thing the VisionPro executes brilliantly. Perhaps worth every penny of the $4500 aging hardware price. Perhaps the first true VR headset that destroys the cool tech geek who never shares the device and just describes it as “Holy Fuck” and “Whoa, you gotta see this” while everyone else is bored and sitting in bowls of pudding.
Yes my friends, this feature that you know so well from your fancy phones is the one and only Screen Mirroring. You’ve used it countless times when showing off your videos or streaming illegal content to your living room screens. That picture in picture icon which pairs so well with AirPlay and Apple TV now is the gateway to the party of 2030.
When you see a headseter pulling imaginary strings and touching fake butterflies you can now feel what they’re feeling : see what they’re controlling : and still go grab a drink while they're locked in the control helmet driving the party.
We all know from the early prototype Apple gear, from brick screens to iphones to, the Vision Pro IS its first version, and as time drains on, so will the size of this thing.
I asked my brainiac nieces and nephews when this will turn into a Black Mirror contact lens? 2032 is the going prediction… perhaps I can enjoy that experience in the AVP Old Folks home…
