@AaronHectorCFP I want to propose a similar strategy to a client to use the roll and redeem strategy so we don’t waste future CDA in their holdco… perfect use case, but no spouse…
Since it’s a new client and I’m not sure how it will go over, I’ll save this recommendation for another day.
@MPelletierCIO@canna_brain Great cause with amazing people behind it! We had a chance to have him speak to our team recently and walked away grateful for the work they’re doing.
@MarkMcGrathCFP@AaronHectorCFP@416ash I don’t have tons of experience with different gear, just my own basic stuff. I did an event at a VR place here in Calgary. They sell packages too. You should reach out and they’ll know what will suit your needs based on what you already have. https://t.co/bB9xAFZiCb
@AaronHectorCFP@MarkMcGrathCFP@416ash I agree. Get a good quality rig, DD wheel, and pedals right out of the gate. I went cheaper with a GT Lite and a G923 to “try it out”. It works, but I miss steering and pedal feedback.
@duncanjeremy And how would the kids know where to go to buy more since on account of the anonymity from all the candy going into the same basket etc etc?
I just don’t get the drug dealing business model. Guess I’ll never make it in that industry… 🤷♂️
@MarkMcGrathCFP@ramit What?! You’re missing out on so much. The peaceful drone of the mower. The satisfaction of laying down stripes. The look of admiration of your neighbors.
My only regret of living in AB is that lawn mowing season is too short here. 😂
@MarkMcGrathCFP I’ve had this exact situation. The survivor was relatively young and barely contributed to CPP. A permanent reduction to a CPP survivor benefit + loss of partner’s OAS (while being too young to apply for their own OAS) caused a permanent material drop in planned income. Tough.
@AravindSitham @TheTaxHeroes @BoomerandEcho I make sure I’m ready to:
-defend my suggestion (tying back to client goals),
-highlight my experience by sharing stories where the strategy worked (and why),
-change my opinion based on the fact set. There may be good historical reasons the current strategy is used I don’t know
@AravindSitham @TheTaxHeroes @BoomerandEcho I structure mine like this:
1. State a shared goal of finding the best client outcome.
2. Share what I’d like to see (but in an “I’ve seen this work well elsewhere way”).
3. Ask their thoughts on the strategy
4. Listen to the reply and if there is a legit reason to NOT do it.
@Atomic_Walrus @EmmMacfarlane We have a backless booster with lower anchors, but the only purpose of the anchors is to secure the booster during a hard stop or accident when my 6 y/o isn’t in the seat. Seemed easier than buckling down the booster at all times.

@AaronHectorCFP Thanks for sharing/framing tax this way. Our family supported the Calgary Health Trust’s Newborn Needs campaign and we attended a celebration recently. We heard stories like this and saw so many children from across Southern AB who benefited from a well-funded NICU/health system.
@MPelletierCIO Here is one of Shaganappi Point from 1923. I think you can see that bridge in the background from one of the pictures you shared. Sorry it’s from so far out.
@bcshaffer I’m glad to have followed your advice a while back and locked in for 5 years. Seeing these prices is wild! Thanks for sharing so much insight into this with everyone. 🙏
@MarkMcGrathCFP@416ash@AravindSitham@jasonpereira@JasonWattBCC I recently met with https://t.co/BC9LvyTtY3 - which I’d describe as a trust co brokerage (along with other estate planning services if needed). They provide access to bank and independent firms, not a list though.
I’m intrigued by the idea, but haven’t worked with them yet.
