@sarah_wootton@PaulBlomfield25@DrHilaryJones It just gives the impression that the supporters of the bill are becoming slightly irrational and therefore making it even more suspect.
@JayMitchinson The government is not “cash-strapped”, and the misnamed “fiscal black hole” is a mirage created by an economically illiterate strategy whose ultimate goal (of ‘balancing the books’) will be disastrous. Is the rest of the article as ill-informed?
@CollinRugg Not true. The EU did offer this weeks ago, but trump rejected it and imposed the tariffs. Now the EU is deciding what its response will be.
@MackJames1967@jonsopel Not true. The EU has not “backed down”. They offered zero for zero tariffs in the past, before Trump’s tariffs. No one yet knows what the EU will decide now. https://t.co/DtroV0zsQz
@Justin_Brown68@AngeBay@owenjonesjourno I don’t think Taylor Swift was giving them the tickets. eg Starmer’s TS tickets came from the Premier League.
If orgs other than the PL were handing out TS tickets they’ll be orgs with significant amounts to gain from bribing UK politicians, not a rarely visiting pop star.
@bbcmtd Why is the BBC still giving a platform to the so-called Tax Payers’ Alliance, an opaquely funded pressure group, based in Tufton St? https://t.co/3UmIbTUoyZ
@DrBurkstrom @RobBryher Not so novel, as all councils used cttee sys for majority of their existence before aberration of so-called ‘strong leader’ sys was imposed by centralising-fixated Tory/Blair regimes. All councils in Scotland & most of Europe use cttee sys. Loads of good practise evidence to see
@RichardEmmins @breitideas @onefordamonet @LabourBristol The committee system was used in every council in the UK, for the vast majority of the time they’ve existed, before the so-called ‘strong leader’ system was forced on them by centralising-focused Tory/Blair governments. It’s clearly untrue to say the committee system causes chaos
@RichardEmmins @breitideas @onefordamonet @LabourBristol “Opposition” not a requirement of a representative democracy - the representatives of the people making (good) decisions. The committee system supports that by allowing all the representatives to have their say, in public, and scrutinise decisions while they are made (not after).
@heather_c_c@LutheBlue The transfer of Police powers to the W. Midlands Mayor not allowed by the courts because it’s unlawful, but it went ahead in S. Yorks, with not a murmur of objection from local politicians.
@heather_c_c@LutheBlue Yes, it’s clearly unlawful. The gov was forced to hold a consultation in W. Mids and S. Yorks. The consultations were *exactly* the same. The courts ruled that W. Midlands consultation was unlawful & prevented the Gov. appealing (cos impossible for Gov. to win).
