Ironically, I went to a nearby storage yard to ask about storing my trailer and grinder on their property. Owner immediately asked if I can do 5 stumps on his lot..lol.

The other jobs are neighbors and friends. Definitely check out @mhp_guy and @StumpGuyTy on YouTube to see how they use OutScraper and StraightText to cold call tree companies and other adjacent business that you can connect with. I've already done this with promising results.

My lawn guy does tree trimming as well, so I'm now on his short list for stump grinding. The business is out there, you just have to be looking for it. I see tree stumps everywhere I go now..lol.

Another thing I did to help me make the leap was talk to guys who stump grind in my area to see how much demand was out there...there is plenty here in Central Florida.

Found one local gentleman on Facebook marketplace willing to chat with me for about an hour. Found two other guys while they were actually grinding stumps in my neighborhood and sparked up conversation. One even offered me a job paying $225/day (no benefits) running their stump grinder, which you could consider paid training.

I did not take him up on it since I want to work independently for the rest of my life, but could be a great way for someone to transition into this industry. Best of luck!!
