Oman is unique, a distinct culture, very civilized, an Omani islamic terrorist would be a rare outlier, an anti-Israel suicide terrorist might be less rare, but even though it's just my modest opinion I think Oman is a very civilized successful country.
@libsoftiktok I'm in Alberta and a nurse did a home visit with us about 48 hours after we got home. It was pleasant enough and at the time I thought they might regularly encounter homes where assistance is required for the health and safety of the child.
Where there's one there's a million and they're always singing. Take it from an old bush worker - there's no way around it, cover up with thick clothing and slather on the deet, refresh the deet slather as required. dèet is harmless, there's bush workers who buy it by the case and cover their skin all day every day in season.
@DOGE__news Bees have a life span of about 40 days, when Big Bee is dealing with billions of bees in an industrial operation they are going to constantly be dying of old age in the millions.
I asked Grok for help to find a good book I once read... "The Battle River Valley by James G. MacGregor (published in 1976 by Western Producer Prairie Books). It's a history of the Battle River region in Alberta and Saskatchewan, covering Indigenous peoples and the area's natural history long before European settlement, then moving into exploration, fur trade, and later developments. MacGregor was an Edmonton-based historian who received the Order of Canada in 1973 for his contributions to Canadian history."
It was pretty shocking, thousands of years of savage genocidal warfare between tribes and bands, a warrior culture that moved around with great caution, at one point the historian commented something like "every hill and valley along the foothills has been soaked in blood at one time or another". If I recall correctly the book says the first census around 1900 counted less than 4000 native inhabitants in western Alberta. It's hard to grow population when the culture is built around finding and raiding and erasing from the planet other bands of natives.
Quite a book, a serious historical study, probably hard to find because it sure as hell does not fit the modern narrative.
@theepicmap During the two hundred years before England took control there was an average of one hundred wars a year on the subcontinent. Who stole from who is complicated.
@JeromyYYC@ElbowValleyCC I was rode one of the first, maybe the first, ElbowValleyCC Golden Triangles way back when, there were thirty-five of us riders and we carried our own food and camping gear on our bikes. I did it for four more years and saw it grow into a very big thing. Seems like yesterday...
@TonyClimate To be fair, at that level of luxury and wealth, mansions are a consumable, not an investment, often the more customized and personalized they are the harder they are to resell.
