Crews just completed the final blast on Copco 2 Dam & removed the remaining concrete from the riverbed! With the dam gone & diversion infrastructure removed, the Klamath River can now flow freely through 1.7 miles of canyon, which had been without water since dam construction 🙌
MBARI staff have shown off their deep-sea Halloween costumes in the office today. 👻 This bioluminescent jelly is one of our favorites.
Show us your deep-sea costumes!
Monarch Butterflies are big in Santa Cruz in a big way! This is from yesterday at Lighthouse Field and show more monarchs than I’ve previously seen there. Their wings are mostly closed in these photos and many think they’re dead leaves.
@NativeSantaCruz I'd love to see their film here in Santa Cruz. Please keep us posted and let me know if I can support finding a venue. So great you made this trip for this screening!
We’ve created a new Flavor in honor of our favorite fugitive. Otter 841 is a cinnamon caramel ice cream laced with snickerdoodle dough chunks (from Pacific Cookie). It's cute, sweet, local and has a bit of a bite! Part of the proceeds will be donated to ocean conservation efforts
Otter 841 early this afternoon. I’ve never seen a sea otter bring up 2 crabs at once, leave it to 841 to be different! There was another capture attempt shortly after this, but they were once again unsuccessful and left the area
@catsmart99 @NativeSantaCruz @catsmart99 @ca_waterkeepers Is the Otter Project tracking this major story about otter 841? What do you/they want to see happen? I also want the best for this otter and for "our otter friends."
If you work outside, take breaks to cool down. Your employer must provide you with water, rest, and shade. Check in on a friend, neighbor, or co-worker & have someone do the same for you. For more tips on extreme heat, visit https://t.co/P5y8kjZ6NK

@NativeSantaCruz So nice to talk with you as we watched 841 together this evening (with the little ones in our group too). Beautiful photographs of a special otter. 😊
Santa Cruz has a surfing sea otter.
Photographer @NativeSantaCruz documented this otter commandeering surfboards and catching waves. Wildlife officials are back out looking for the otter today and plan to capture her.

@curious_founder Michael, thanks so much for this excellent and in-depth history of solar water heating. I was happy to see a Sunbank cameo in your video! Being in the industry for over a decade, I have a lot to say on this topic – but I’ll try to keep it brief. First, you are absolutely (1/n)
These awful recent acts build on a history of water injustices — and deep community resistance — in Allensworth. #EJ#waterjustice
