#OTD is the 95th Anniversary of the unveiling of the Neuve-Chapelle Memorial.

The memorial commemorates over 4,700 Indian soldiers and labourers who died on the Western Front during World War One with no known graves.

Provenance: Made spring 1917, in battlefield clearance by V Corps (originally V Corps Cem No. 19) On old front line of July 1916, named after a small plantation.

Numbers: 72 burials, 28 unidentified.

Today marks the 95th anniversary of the inauguration of the Menin Gate, Memorial to the Missing, in Ypres on 24 July 1927. Designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield, it took five years to build. The inauguration was attended by a long procession of relatives of those missing in action.
