🥁 They're here... the first test images from the #DarkUniverse 🕵️ detective give us a tantalising glimpse of what is yet to come from a fully calibrated mission later this autumn 🤩

Our @ESA_Euclid mission is undergoing the final test before launch in July 2023 🚀
Here it is standing in a special room in the @Thales_Alenia_S test facilities in Cannes, France, where it successfully underwent electromagnetic compatibility testing ✅

Few hours ago the ESA Council made the decision about the @ESA_Euclid launcher:
ESA’s proposal to use the SpaceX vehicle Falcon9 was approved for a launch in 2023🚀.
Just like humans, spacecraft can be energised by the Sun, but also damaged by its light and heat ☀️🛰️
@Thales_Alenia_S engineers attached a combined solar array and sunshield to @ESA_Euclid last week, taking the mission one step closer to completion

After successful tests under space conditions at the Centre Spatial de Liège, the Euclid payload module (PLM) was packed and transported to Thales Alenia Space in Turin.
The extended PLM contains the Euclid telescope and the two carefully aligned scientific instruments and was held in under space conditions with cryogenic temperatures (up to -150 degrees centigrade) and vacuum.
It was for the teams a very demanding period, all teams are very relieved that @ESA_Euclid has successfully passed another milestone towards launch in 2022 !
The Euclid extended payload module (PLM) is finishing its acceptance test campaign at Centre Spatial de Liège (Belgium). Yesterday morning (19 July 2021) the large vacuum tank was opened after more than 60 days of 24/7 intensive testing.
The #EUCLID telescope is taking shape in our cleanroom in Toulouse 🇫🇷.
Our engineers just integrated @MSSLSpaceLab ‘VIS’ visible imaging instrument on the payload module.
The @ESA space telescope will image billions of galaxies out to a distance of 10 billion light years.

@ESA got 14.4 billions for 5 years for its mandatory space program. That's 6 euros per European per year, to build missions such as Euclid (understanding the Universe), JUICE (moons of Jupiter), Plato (explanets...), Athena & LISA (black holes...)
What do you think ? worth it ?
