I was just informed that the Federal Economic Statistics Advisory Committee (FESAC), of which I was a member, was terminated abruptly and all upcoming meetings are also canceled. This was a committee that has been around since at least 2000.
We were a group of experts from academia and policy (including folks like @DAcemogluMIT who was on it until recently) who met twice a year to advise BEA, BLS, Census, and the Commerce department on matters related to federal economic statistics.
We were all volunteers serving on the committee without any compensation because we wanted to help federal agencies who were already facing serious issues due to budget cuts. I fail to see how this will result in any cost savings.
Excited to share that I won the young professional best paper award. The session was super interesting, and Iโm grateful to all judges and organizers of the panel and the conference.
I had great time at PERC this past summer, and received so many good feedback on my job market paper from the fellows there. Would definitely recommend this awesome program!

By trawling through the archives and compiling and correcting historical data, this yearโs economic sciences laureate Claudia Goldin has been able to present new and often surprising facts. She has also given us a deeper understanding of the factors that affect womenโs opportunities in the labour market and how much their work has been in demand.
The fact that womenโs choices have often been, and remain, limited by marriage and responsibility for the home and family is at the heart of her analyses and explanatory models. Goldinโs studies have also taught us that change takes time, because choices that affect entire careers are based on expectations that may later prove to be false.
Her insights reach far outside the borders of the US and similar patterns have been observed in many other countries. Her research brings us a better understanding of the labour markets of yesterday, today and tomorrow.
