my mom taught me to say “not my circus, not my monkeys” when some crazy shit someone was doing wasn’t my business. but when my friends are doing crazy shit it’s tough. bc I’m like that’s not my circus… but that’s MY monkey
to the elderly gentleman in the salon chair next to me who had just seen Bridesmaids for the first time and spent his entire appointment gleefully quoting all of his favorite scenes (aka the whole movie) - you are an angel, and a gem to eavesdrop on. 🥹😂❤️
I love airport pickup zones. Nothing warms the heart like watching people reconnect with loved ones 🥹 Extra credit if there’s a dog involved… I will cry.
(4/4) I’m learning that I’d much rather invest 100% of myself into a smaller group that I actually feel filled up/loved by than continue to try and force things with people who don’t put in any effort. 🤷🏼♀️ 2023 me is trying to be surrounded by genuine friendships, that’s all.
(3/4) Lately I’ve had to stop myself from reaching out too much or setting up big get togethers. I actually planned and then cancelled one all within 24hrs earlier this month. lol. Celebrating others is truly something that brings me joy, so taking a break from it feels hard…
(2/4) Stop spending ridiculous amounts of money on elaborate events for people who 1. didn’t appreciate it, 2. half the time didn’t bother to show up, or 3. found some way to be messy about it. It’s been telling to see how much quieter the first few months of this year have been
(1/4) My only resolution for 2023 was to stop reaching out to people who weren’t reaching out to me. Stop trying to force friendships with people who weren’t reciprocating or weren’t feeding something positive in my life.
“Don’t ask friends for help moving as an adult” “don’t ask friends to do a potluck as an adult” you can literally ask me to hold your hand at the dentist and I will do it
